‘Fantasies’
(Metric Music International)

Metric were already pretty tip-top – but they just got better. This fourth offering finds the electro-rock foursome developing the formula that won them so many new fans when breakthrough ‘Live It Out’ was released back in 2005; combining Emily Haines’ trademark bewitching vocals with dark, shimmering soundscapes, growling riffs and choruses that seemingly explode out of nowhere. ‘Help I’m Alive’ is an instant favourite, as are tracks like ‘Sick Muse’, ‘Satellite Mind’, ‘Gold Guns And Girls’, ‘Stadium Love’ and ‘Gimme Sympathy’, but do yourself a favour and listen to the whole thing in entirety - go on, no sneaky mp3 skipping please. It’s been a long wait for new material, but it was worth it.
