Channelling small-town disaffection into hollered ladrock, the Enemy's chart-topping debut was one of the less inspiring success stories of 2007. By comparison, the Coventry trio's follow-up sounds positively adventurous. "Elephant Song" is a Led Zep-sized opener, and the climax of "No Time for Tears" chucks in jubilant gospel backing. Elsewhere, we get swooning, string-swept laments and what appears to be their take on Pulp's "Common People". As anti-establishment broadsides like "51st State" show, they've lost none of their anger, but they have learnt to display it in more than one dimension.
