5. What are the NBA’s tie-breaking procedures for determining playoff seeding?

In the case of two teams finishing with identical regular-season records, the following criteria is utilized, in descending order, to determine which team receives a higher playoff seeding:

• Which team had a better win percentage in games against each other
• Which team had a better win percentage against teams in their own division (only if tied teams are in the same division)
• Which team had a better win percentage against teams in their own conference
• Which team had a better win percentage against teams eligible for playoffs in their conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position)
• Which team had the better win percentage against teams eligible for Playoffs in opposite conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position)
• Better net result of total points scored less total points allowed against all opponents.

• Which team had the better win percentage against teams in their own division (only if all tied teams are in the same division)
• Which team had the better win percentage against teams in their own conference
• Which team had the better win percentage against teams eligible for playoffs in their own conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position)
• Which team had the better net result of total points scored less total points allowed against all opponents
