SUMMER signings continue to come thick and fast for the Basingstoke Bison, as they look to build a formidable squad for their first assault on the English Premier League title.

Just a couple of days after announcing the capture of forward Ollie Bronnimann, another British player in netminder Davey Lawrence has been added to the Herd.

The giant goalie who stands 6ft 3in arrives in Basingstoke, after a season with the Telford Tigers in the EPL, where as their starting netminder he posted an impressive 90.1 save percentage.

Before his time in Shropshire, the 24-year-old Barnsley-born shot stopper played four seasons for the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite League as their second goalie having learnt his trade in the Sheffield junior programme.

Bison boss Steve Moria believes Lawrence is the right man to back stop his side to honours this season and said: “Davey is a big goalie and he is difficult to score against as we found last season in Slough.”

“He helped them into the top four early in the season, but injuries and departures meant it was tough going for him after Christmas and he faced a lot of shots.”

The former Great Britain junior international talking from his home in Barnsley said: “Last season I faced a lot of rubber, but I know coming to Basingstoke we will be chasing silverware. I am ready for the challenge and I want to a be a starting goalie on a winning team.”
