Trisha Yearwood leads Habitat effort: "A toolbelt is cute"

Trisha Yearwood is leading Habitat for Humanity’s national Women Build efforts this year. After all, she herself has been on several Habitat construction sites, where she quickly had an epiphany.

“On the first build site when I got to the first Habitat site I ever did, I actually really didn’t know anything about building,” she told me via satellite today. ”

“I just thought the toolbelt was cute and that construction can be cute.”

Now, it has gone waaaayy beyond that.

“After four or five builds, I’ve learned that a nail gun is really a construction diva’s best tool. So I will NOT go on a construction site without a nail gun at this point. I’ve definitely a nail gun diva.”

If you want to get involved, the closest women’s build starts Sept. 9 in the Murfreesboro area.

FYI, Trisha fans, she’s planning on staying off the road for 2009, but she’ll be back in the studio later this year to make a new album.
