SAN DIEGO (AP) Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips was cited for misdemeanor battery for allegedly striking a security guard in the face at a downtown hotel early Sunday morning.
It is Phillips' second run-in with the law in three seasons.
"It's disappointing to hear about the issue involving Shaun Phillips. We'll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course," general manager A.J. Smith said in a statement.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) The Seahawks are prepared to move on without starting outside linebacker Leroy Hill.
Seattle brought back veteran cornerback Ken Lucas and signed free-agent fullback Justin Griffith with one-year contracts Monday, about two hours after team president Tim Ruskell said the Seahawks are having "just conversations" with Hill's agent on a possible long-term deal. (MORE)
DALLAS (AP) Former Kansas City Chiefs coach Frank Gansz, who spent much of his NFL and collegiate career working with special teams, died Monday at a Dallas hospital.
SMU spokesman Brad Sutton said Gansz developed complications after undergoing knee replacement surgery last week and died Monday afternoon. Gansz had been special teams coach for the Mustangs last year. (MORE)

NEW YORK (AP) Detroit Lions top pick Matthew Stafford appeared on Monday night's Late Show with David Letterman, reading the Top Ten list.
The quarterback, who starred for three years at Georgia, was taken with the first pick by the Lions in the NFL draft Saturday. Stafford will try and help the Lions overcome the first 0-16 season in NFL history. (MORE)
