Forums: The Return - 05:34:04 PM
Yes, the forums are back up again. Turns out that the host shut them down for whatever reason because of some issue they detected. not sure exactly what it was yet, but the important thing is that the forums are back up and you can go back to posting random thoughts, instead of spending that time on other things, like actually listening to your teacher or not leaving the house.

Sorry guys, the forums have been broken for the past few days. I'm aware of the situation and was hoping it would have been something that would have fixed itself server side. Evidently, that didn't happen, and unfortunately, when Vlad gave me control, it wasn't as absolute as we would like. Essentially, I have no access to the forum database, so there really isn't anything I can do to fix it. Hopefully Vlad will check back sometime soon and notice there is an issue (or God forbid, read one of my news posts here).

I really apologize for the inconveniance this has cause, and unfortunately, there's really no telling how long these forums will be down, considering how often Vlad checks back here. Keep your fingers crossed.

The hold up. . . - 10:30:53 PM
Okay folks, there has been a bit of a hold up. Actually, I've had a few new tutorials that were pretty much ready to be put up sometime around last week, but for the past couple of weeks, I've really had a hard time sitting down in front of the computer to actually do it. First, things went really bad at work, corporate didn't think we were producing well enough and almost fired everyone, myself included. I did manage to save my job, the the dust isn't quite settled because some other stuff is going down now that puts my job back in the hot seat again.

The to top everything off, my dog dies on me. Anyway, I'm really sorry about these hold-ups. I've been working 9 - 10 hour shifts to try and keep my job, so usually when I come home, I haven't had the energy to sit down in front of the PC for too long before I was just ready to go to sleep. Anyhow, I'll try to get these tutorials up as soon as I can.

Again, sorry for the wait, and I hope you'll all bear with me on this.

A new addition - 11:46:47 PM
A new addition has been added to the tutorial list. A list of changes that have been made since the original days of HL1 mapping. The changes are pretty significant. Don't be fooled though, it's not just a 1, 2, 3 type of list, but a very detailed explanation of what those changes are, what they do, as well as how to use these cool new features. If you wanted to know how to get cubemaps working in HL2, now you'll know.

As for me, a lot of people have already sent E-mail asking me why I haven't personally started writing tutorials of my own. Well, there are many factors so far. The first and most significant is simply time. I have very little time right now, mostly due to a busy work schedule. I'm also hard at work on a game project, TEU. I won't go into too much about that right now, but it's been mentioned a few times in the forums and around the net (mainly through various forums).

Anyway, between that, work, and World of WarCraft (yes, I'm a WoW addict and have been since it was first announced on Blizzard's website), I haven't had much time to sit and fool around with the new Hammer yet. I may get into it sometime later though, so perhaps you'll be seeing some new tutorials from me in the future.

Until then, I've commissioned the aid of a few our our Vlatitude alumni who have been here since the wee days of Vlatitude and they are responsible for some of these wonderful tutorials we have here now, so keep your eyes peeled for more. We'll be pumping them out as they come along.

Half-Life Deux - 02:27:22 AM
It's been a long time coming, but yes, we've finally started posting some Half-Life 2 tutorials. These were dedicated by some of our Vlatitude forum regulars who were commissioned to take some time to sit down and learn a little more about the new Hammer editor.

So, I had originally planned to gather a bunch and release them all in a big mass, but I couldn't wait to get these out. Special thanks goes out to Ginger Lord and zombie@computer for the contributions. It's the first, in what I hope will continue to be a steady series of new tutorials for Vlatitude.

Enjoy, and keep your eyes open. The new Vlatitude is only just getting started.

Yes, updates. Hooray - 05:54:08 AM
Hey guys. It's been awhile, but yes, there are some updates here. First, some may have noticed a new little section in the forums that has been added since the announcement of a highly anticipated game going gold. I'll let you think about that for awhile.

Also, the files section has been rehauled and updated with the newest content, also removing old useless files. It'll probably be more useful this time around. I'm told there are still a few progs that should be added in there by some forum members, so expect a few more additions soon as well.

And last but not least, we've gone IRC! That's right, Vlatitude now has official IRC channels. Similar to the forums, it comes in two flavors, general and editing.

You can use many different programs to use IRC, the most popular being mIRC or Trillian.

We have successfully moved to a new webhost, which gives us more breathing room and better reliability. Do us a favor and report anything that appears to be broken, although everything should work as normal, since the transfer went rather smoothly.

Still Standing - 05:26:05 PM
Well, that was nasty.

After our server crashed and deleted the whole site unrecoverably, I wasn't sure that Vlatitude would live again. However, I remembered that when we moved servers in February, I backed everything up for the transition. So today I reverted the site to that backup version - So everything posted between February 7 and today (April 18) has been lost to the bit bucket, chomped on the corrupted sectors, never to be recovered.

I want to apologize to everybody for the downtime and for the loss of the forum messages. Let's hope that this new resurrection era of Vlatitude does not disappoint and that we are able to get back on our feet ASAP. Thanks for sticking with us for all these years - I'll do what I can that we keep running for years to come.

I'm currently looking for a new webhost. I've already gotten some very nice suggestions, but if you think you know a place that can run an active site such as ours relatively inexpensively, drop me a line. Oh, and if you're wondering who is the webhosting company whose policy is "hope for the best, expect the worst", who did not notify me that the site was down, and who Vlatitude be leaving once the billing cycle runs out, it's Dixiesys.
