The Delphic Experience

ADDING a new dimension to the word "fun," summer is synonymous with fun, fun, fun.

For those who attended the 4th Delphi Summer Arts Workshops, a new dimension has been added to the word "fun." Their experience of the workshops had been more than just fun, it was an enriching experience that they would like to share with everyone and attend again.

For photography workshop facilitator Waffy Casem, the "Delphic Experience" was an exciting one that he would love to do again. As he puts it, "Getting to know the students and being able to share what I know about photography was a truly fulfilling experience. I could actually see myself in them, with their desire to learn and understand photography, and it was this desire, which made it easier for me to teach them. Anything I taught them, they would listen carefully and then immediately try it out. I showed some of my students' works to my co-photographers, and they were impressed. I'd love to teach them again next year."

Although there were only a few participants to the photography workshops, they all had a great time as they tried out their newfound skills with actual shoots at Baguio's famous Burnham Park and Sunshine Park. Cameras on hand, the group would take pictures of models, nature, and whatever caught their fancy, applying the knowledge Casem had imparted in the hour-long lecture that preceded each photo shoot.

A 16-year-old photography workshop participant, Chryzia Itay, describes her Delphic Experience: "Photography wasn't really just about taking pictures, there's more to learn. Our teacher, Kuya Waffy, taught us terms which could help us understand the basics. He also gave us the chance to shoot in different places with different foci and themes. We had sessions for lighting effects, night shots, daylight shots, and many more. He even arranged models for us to shoot. My 'co-workshoppers' and I had learned a lot and had fun the whole week of the workshop. It helped us to use and improve our skills. At the same time, we met friends and opportunities along the way."

On April 25 at the University of Baguio Gym, the 4th Delphic Summer Arts Workshops, was culminated with an exhibit of the works of the participants. Evident in their works and faces was the heartening "Delphic Experience," which they look forward to sharing with more participants in the future.
