“Give me a bucket of blood and a camera and I’m good to go!” Who is Ace Norton? Someone who truly fits the description of Terrifyingly Gnarly, that’s who. An interesting, immensely talented music video and commercial director, his work warrants your attention—urgently. Norton is currently one of the only people pushing and slowly joining the ranks of legends who have pushed the medium to the potential it could be used for. A bit of his résumé includes: two videos for Bloc Party, one featuring a bizarre plot to run the world by a large horse-headed creature (“Mercury”), the other, a classic man-in-monster-suit fight (“Flux”); a beautifully lensed video for Simian Mobile Disco, featuring incredibly hot girls transforming into creatures and vomiting; and the happily macabre “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here,” for Zooey Deschanel’s band, She & Him.

Recently, and by recently I’m pretty sure I mean about five months ago, I was perusing the shelves of Strand Bookstore. For non-New Yorkers, Strand is a dusty bookseller filled with an insane amount of literature, all very cheap and discounted from the normal Barnes & Noble/Borders, etc. price. In short, it rules. So while passing one of the many display tables, a novel caught my eye and taught me something I never knew: ROSEMARY’S BABY was a novel (by Ira Levin) before it became the phenomenal film it is. I’m sure I’m behind on that info, so bear with me here. It was $4(!), so I grabbed it and just a week ago I finally got a chance to pick it up while I’m not drowning in books for class.

Back in October, Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures released something like eight DVDs on the same day, all part of their new label, Ghost House Underground. This is an only slightly less stupid name than Dimension Extreme.

Writing a blog is an interesting undertaking, not that I’m an expert or have been doing it a long time, but there’s just a lot of paradoxical kind of things that kick around my mind when dishing out one of these.

I guess this entry is going to get kind of spoilerish, but sadly (not in a sarcastic way, this is actually really sad), RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP isn’t much worth your time anyway, so eh, read on.

Remember that stack of movies on my desk? I’m trying. No, I really am. It’s taking a bit, though. Good news, however, at least for me: One of those which I’ve been aching to see has finally been consumed by my eyes.

I’m not exactly sure about any extreme opinions on this new FRIDAY THE 13TH. I mean, I love FRIDAY. I have all the films, am part of the collective that believe THE FINAL CHAPTER is the best one and out of some awful sense of humor and love of horror and my hometown, I want to get the poster art for JASON TAKES MANHATTAN tattooed on me (peep it here if you have no clue what I’m talking about).

“I have this vision… Of October,” says Gil. “Where we go to a haunted house every weekend”. “YES!” I exclaim Two weeks later… not exactly panning out (mostly due to my dumbness). But we did go to the FOREST OF FEAR up in Tuxedo, NY, where they have the Renaissance Fair. That night, however, belonged to the fact that they had carnival rides, one of them being THE GRAVITRON (a.k.a. a spaceship that spins super fast with you up against its walls). Definitely the most INTENSE Gravitron I’ve ever been on, definitely the best one too. There was also a ride called QUASAR. I don’t know about you, but being around things called gravitron and quasar truly make me want to make up epic DIO-esque metal songs about riding in them and going to slay alien dragons.

Hey! It’s Sam. Back here at the (now warmer) Fango offices.
Every couple of days, Tony will walk over to where I sit and ask me if I’d like to check out some stuff I haven’t seen. As rad as it is, it also reminds me of my super bad habit of letting movies I haven’t seen pile up on the desk in my room. So aside from me just ranting, this blog is also pushing me to actually get to these things instead of fall asleep watching TRUE BLOOD, which I can’t figure out why I’m attempting to keep up with. I do the same thing with ENTOURAGE. They aren’t that good, but I watch it anyway; it’s so illogical, and slightly frustrating. Back to the point, the first DVD I popped in was called MIDNIGHT MOVIE, a (sorta) nice little slasher. So here we go…

Hey all! My name is Sam, and I have the pretty rad honor of being FANGORIA’s new intern. Starting now and hopefully pretty frequently, from the (slightly freezing) offices of Fango, I will be publicly expressing my opinions on daily horror news and terror flicks, new and old alike. And hey, if anyone wants to contend or debate, you’re more than welcome. I’m never here to argue, but always to talk and bro down, haha.
