After securing the signatures of Andy Burgess and Kevin Gallen, Hatters manager Mick Harford has wasted no time in snapping up pacy winger Adam Newton following his release from Brentford.

Newton, 28, has agreed to sign a two year contract at Kenilworth Road and Town fans will remember him scoring the Bees' second goal when the two sides met on the last game of the season in May.

The former England Under 21 international has won promotion in each of the last two seasons having previously been a part of the Peterborough United team who finished second in League 2 in 2007/08.

A product of the West Ham United academy, Newton made 249 appearances at London Road before helping Brentford clinch the League 2 title this season.

And Town boss Mick Harford was delighted to beat off competition from a clutch of other clubs to secure the services of the St Kitts and Nevis international.

He said: "I think it's a coup for Luton Town Football Club to sign a player of Adam's ilk.

"He's athletic, experienced and the kind of player we've been looking to bring to this football club for a long time.

"He can get to the by-line and deliver crosses and will offer us the balance and width in the side.

"At 28 he's in his prime and he's got the experience of winning promotion the last two seasons and he's come here to do it again."
