Record Breaking Final Fantasy Series heads to The Record Breaking Nintendo DS

Final Fantasy IV

Final Fantasy IV has been re-released on the Nintendo DS, bringing together two great record setting properties.

The Final Fantasy series holds 7 Guinness World Records at the time of printing of the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008. These records include the Most Games in an RPG Series (12 main titles, 7 enhanced games, and 32 spin-off titles), The Longest Development Period (Final Fantasy XII took five years to produce), and the Fastest-Selling Console RPG in a Single Day (Final Fantasy X sold 1,455,732 copies on it’s Japanese launch day).

The Nintendo DS contributed to the record for the Most Profitable Week in Nintendo History, where it sold 653,000 units during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2007. It was also the handheld of choice for the Largest Handheld Console Party, which took place in Sydney Australia on October 12, 2007. 381 DS gamers got together to play their favorite games.

For more spectacular gaming records, the Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008 (MSRP $19.99, RRP £15), the first Guinness World Records book devoted solely to the world of gaming, is on shelves now and bursting with new records, high score statistics and fascinating facts.
