 Net profit of du to rise 100% in second quarter

Dubai-based Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company, or du, will double its net profit for the second quarter of this year compared to the first quarter, an analyst said yesterday. Net income is projected to reach Dh45.6 million in second quarter of 2009, from a loss of Dh43.9m in the same period last year, Al Mal Capital's Irfan Ellam said in a research note.

du, the UAE's integrated telecom provider, on Tuesday announced the launch of the "One World, One Rate" roaming tariff aimed at offering users more value, simplicity and convenience while roaming abroad.

Committed to transparency and protecting the interests of the UAE telecoms subscribers, the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) clarified to the public the means to block Spam SMSs that reach their mobile phones.

etisalat announced yesterday the launch of Etisalat Messenger, the company's new messaging service.

 More bandwidth capacity at reduced cost from etisalat

Telecommunication operator, etisalat yesterday announced that it would more than double its bandwidth capacity at reduced cost. Its mobile internet package of 2MB will now offer 10 MB, the 50 MB has been increased to 100 MB and the 120 MB package now allows use of 1GB, while all prices remain constant, the company said in the statement yesterday.
It has also introduced new mobile broadband packages of 1GB, 5GB and 10GB, going up the price of Dh460 per month.

An Ajman-based company is aiming to become the Middle-Eastern leader in mobile phone SIM and recharge cards, a lucrative market dominated by major European firms.

etisalat subscribers will soon be able to send remittances to their home country via mobile wallet applications. Mobile wallet systems enable customers to use their mobile phones to pay for transactions at merchants that accept such payments. Dead Sea, Jordan - Emirates Telecommunications Corp will bid for a stake in Morocco's Meditel as it looks to expand in the Middle East and Africa where prices are low, its chairman said on Friday.

 Mobile phone user base in UAE grows to 193 per cent

The mobile phone user base in the UAE has grown to 193 per cent of the total population at the end of February 2009 from 182 per cent in September 2008, showing an increase of seven per cent, according to the UAE Telecommunications Regulator Authority.
TRA statistics, released yesterday, said the second telecom operator in the UAE, du, gained 26 per cent market share and the incubator etisalat 74 per cent in September 2008.

 du subscriptions grew by 2pc in six months

du, UAE's youngest telecom operator, has outmanoeuvred etisalat with a two per cent growth in mobile subscriptions in the six months ending February 2009. The overall active mobile subscribers' rate has grown seven per cent in the country to reach 193 per cent at the end of February 2009, according to statistics from the Telecom Regulatory Authority, or TRA.

E-MARINE, the region's leader in submarine cable deployment, maintenance and repair, on Sunday announced that it has completed the first phase in the deployment of the 4,900km TEAMS (the East Africa Marine System) cable to Mombasa, Kenya after the successful landing in Fujairah, UAE.
