The audience for the second IndyCar Series race on Versus was nearly double the network’s maiden effort two weeks earlier.
The .52 rating (478,477 viewers) for Sunday’s race at Long Beach, Calif., was equal to what ESPN2 got for the same race a year ago and up from .28 for the season opener at St. Petersburg, Fla. The rating in Indianapolis went from 1.2 to 2.1.
"Let’s be honest, NASCAR was not racing Sunday," Indy Racing League vice president John Griffin said. "But I think it also shows we’re gaining some traction with viewers and the attraction of Long Beach."
