CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Philippines – (UPDATE) All the 10 passenger aircrafts that were diverted to the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in Clark Freeport, north of Manila, starting 4 p.m. due to bad weather, have all reverted to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City by 8:02 p.m., a Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) official said. A Cebu Pacific plane from Davao City was the last to fly out of DMIA, said Alex Cauguiran, CIAC executive vice president and chief operating officer.
The planes that took shelter at DMIA prior landing at NAIA were from the Cebu Pacific (three A-320s, two ATR and an A-319), Emirates (Beechcraft and B-777), Philippine Air Lines (A-319) and Zest Air (McDonell plane), he said.
Zero visibility around NAIA prompted the airlines to park in the meantime at DMIA, Cauguiran said.
The DMIA, a 2,500-hectare airport formerly of the United States Air Force, has been an alternative airport to NAIA since 1993.
