In pictures: Gordon Brown's cabinet reshuffle
Gordon Brown has completed a make-or-break cabinet reshuffle after work and pensions secretary James Purnell dramatically resigned and called for him to stand down.
Despite the drama of the reshuffle, many of the government’s so-called big beasts, including David Miliband, Peter Mandelson and Alistair Darling, are remaining in their posts. Health Secretary Alan Johnson, however, the favourite to become party leader if Gordon Brown is forced out, has been named as the new home secretary.
As the reshuffle unfolded, several ministers, including employment secretary Tony McNulty, Europe minister Caroline Flint and Welsh secretary Paul Murphy announced their resignations from the government.
MSN News reveals the ministers that moved in new roles, those that remained in their posts and those that chose to resign in the wake of Gordon Brown’s cabinet reshuffle.
