An all-encompassing law on the rights of children, as stated by the relevant international conventions, is in the making in the UAE, according to a member of the UAE's Federal National Council (FNC). Every right that is spelled out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as inherent to the human dignity and harmonious development of every child is being protected by the UAE as, said Dr Fatima Al-Mazrouei.

 UNICEF to base child protection programme at GWU

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has taken the premises of the UAE General Women's Union (GWU) as venue of its child protection programme. The move falls under the cooperation agreement signed between the GWU and UNICEF.
Meanwhile, Noura Al Suweidi, GWU Director, received today Dr Ayman Abu Laban, UNICEF representative to the Gulf region, and Lara Hussein the UNICEF's Child Protection Officer in the UAE.

 UAE drafts new law to protect children's rights

A new law is being planned to protect children from child labour and all other forms of abuse, Gulf News has learnt. Under the draft law, adults who fail to act on children's complaints or inform authorities about abuses, will face penalties and fines.

The Board of Directors of the Centres for Sheltering Victims of Human Trafficking (CSVHT) has paid tribute to General H.H. The Children's City in Dubai is participating in the global campaign called "Blessing of the Worlds" launched by the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department under the slogan, "Peaceful co-existence of nations aim for all." A child safety campaign launched by Abu Dhabi Police earlier this month has drawn wide acclaim from various circles across the country. The campaign will last until September this year.
The campaign was prompted by recent statistics, which showed that over 1660 children were found victims of several accidents across the country during last year.
