An all-encompassing law on the rights of children, as stated by the relevant international conventions, is in the making in the UAE, according to a member of the UAE's Federal National Council (FNC). UNICEF to base child protection programme at GWU Posted on 19/05/2009
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has taken the premises of the UAE General Women's Union (GWU) as venue of its child protection programme. The move falls under the cooperation agreement signed between the GWU and UNICEF.
Meanwhile, Noura Al Suweidi, GWU Director, received today Dr Ayman Abu Laban, UNICEF representative to the Gulf region, and Lara Hussein the UNICEF's Child Protection Officer in the UAE.

UAE drafts new law to protect children's rights Posted on 27/04/2009
A new law is being planned to protect children from child labour and all other forms of abuse, Gulf News has learnt. Under the draft law, adults who fail to act on children's complaints or inform authorities about abuses, will face penalties and fines.
