About 200 people were evacuated Friday night after the garbage room in an apartment building on Côte des Neiges Rd. near Sherbrooke St. W. caught fire about 9:20 p.m. Smoke filled all six stories of the building, and all the tenants in the 108-unit building were evacuated, said Montreal fire department operations chief Gilles Ducharme. The fire took about an hour to control, but damage was limited to two tractors, used to tow the dumpsters outdoors. Côte des Neiges between Sherbrooke and Dr. Penfield Ave. was closed until about 11 p.m. About 75 firefighters responded to the call. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire was still under investigation Friday night.
