I thought that this might create discussion and make the producers ponder their decisions . Does anyone out there have their favorites that they would like to see on dvd ?
1 : Heartbeat ( Nick Berry ) 2 : Maisie Raine ( Pauline Quirke ) 3 : Badger ( Jerome Flynn ) 4 : Birds of a Feather ( Pauline Quirke ) 5 : Red Cap ( Tamzin Outhwaite ) 6 : Kiss me Kate (Caroline Quentin )

Something that is definitely not "not" on DVD, but I would really really like the complete Twin Peaks, some normal edition, region 2 and with English subtitles! Am I totally wrong, or is it really possible to get it only on Region 1 format or some Dutch edition??? Or maybe anyone can help with some information? Thanks!

As far as I know, the situation re Twin Peaks season 2 is it that as of the moment there is no release date pencilled in for it and therefore it isn't coming out on UK region 2. It was reported as getting a Region 2 UK release about two years ago, and I seem to recall Amazon and various online retailers were listing a Region 2 boxset with a release date given for this year, but that kept fluctating until the release was pulled. So essentially is is not being released and there's no indication of it being released any time soon. My guesses as to the reason for this is that there must be some weird rights issues that are holding up its British release, and these extra-legal movie-and-TV regional copyright-securing issues to do with royalties being paid and suchlike can often drag on for years. That's my guess anyway, I know this sometimes happens with TV shows in particular.
As far as I've read the dutch season 2 region 2 release is still available but lacking in extras that are on the US region 1 both-seasons gold box version - and apparently that version is defective and has missing scenes and episodes that don't play. So in summation you can currently only get two 'incomplete' import versions. I'm vaguely annoyed too as I haven't seen season 2 since it first aired. Just going to cross my fingers and wait to see if a downloadable version materializes anywhere...
And on a related note re unreleased Twin Peaks, there's the Fire Walk With Me movie of which there is reportedly a four-hour-long unfinished director's cut version which which David Lynch has secreted away somewhere and has yet to release in any shape or form... I did read theres whole scenes with characters from the series who didn't appear in the final film, as well as tons more stuff with David Bowie who as I'm sure you know only turns up in the film for about one very bizarre minute. There was supposed to be a whole segment explaining who his character was and where he went... but again, this is material we may never see as I think its either the Canal+ studio or Lynch himself who own the rights and the original filmed material, and no-one's confirmed any possible release...
Hope this helps, even if essentially, its a big fat NO all round. AAARGH!

My vote for a series that should be on DVD is Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain. I'm 50ish so this enjoyable 6 part series is the history of my life!!! MIKE

I would love to see the second series of A Very Peculiar Practice out on DVD. The first is (or was?) available; both were depressingly brilliant, one of the best things the BBC did in the 1980s.

I have had several DVD players over the last few years, all of which were MULTIREGIONAL playback. I can buy any DVD from any region and problems like yours with Twin Peaks don't affect me. There are many movies which are only ever released in the US and I felt that multiregional playback was essential for me. Regional coding exists ONLY so that people who really want to watch it on release are forced to go to the cinema and the effect of advertising on release in different parts of the world has a major influence on sales (cinema tickets then DVD sales) - I have large numbers of non-regional DVDs (mostly music video) which can be played on any machine regardless of machine-coding...
At one time I wanted to buy "Nil By Mouth" (a very english movie written, produced and directed by Gary Oldman) - it was not available anywhere in the UK at that time in Region 2 format but I could get a Region 1 copy easily!!! "Leon" (Luc Besson) was cut because it was thought that some scenes might upset US audiences (!!) - it is now available, uncut, as an "Uncut International Version" which is only available as REGION 1!!! I received my pre-ordered "Scooby-Doo" the day before it was released in the US - over 6 months before it was released over here!
Amazon is a very good source for multiregional DVDs (I bought all 3 machines from here) - that might be an answer for you too!

Malcolm in the Middle. Apparently it's because there's a problem with the costs of music licenses or something, but they should sort it. It really does need to be released. Although for now the repeats on sky one will do.

Something our whole family would love to be able to get on dvd is "OVER HERE". It was shown in the mid-nineties on BBC and contained a number of stars including Martin Clunes as Group Captain Barker, Timothy and Samuel West and Geraldine James to name a few. From an idea by Ernest Maxim, it was about the 2nd world war when the Americans came over to the U.K.- absolutely brilliant! Very funny and poignant too. Our family copy video is wearing out - we have tried for years to obtain another copy...anywhere...on video or dvd - but without success. Anyone able to help here? It would make our Christmas!!

Yes, we're desperate for an odd one called MAXIMUM BOB which was pulled part way through the series ten years ago. Based on an Elmore Leonard novel, Beau Bridges played a harsh right wing judge who was married to a psychic who I think was also a mermaid... We've been waiting years to see it again, and wish they'd pick up where they left off!

Totally agree with Harley Street about Tutti Frutti. Whenever I visit any site selling or renting DVDs I always key in Tutti Frutti - just in case I eventually find it lurking somewhere. But then, this weekend, in an interview with Tilda Swinton I read that her partner John Byrne - the writer of TF - was most unhappy about the fact that the BBC never released it. That prompted me to check it out on Google and I found that in 2006 some bods at the BBC were saying that they were working on getting it sorted. So what happened?! I'd love to see it again - but more important I have loved ones who've NEVER seen it, which is a very sad state of affairs.

In an otherwise unremarkable summer, I had the great fortune to spend a fortnight in Southern Italy. My contentment of sun and warm breezes, topped up by sensible amounts of the local vino frizzante, was made complete by the opportunity to read the quite excellent book, A History Of Modern Britain. I thoroughly enjoyed almost every sentence - a triumph indeed.
Unfortunately, although I believe the television series of same has been aired twice, I have managed to miss all but one episode. I have tried in vain to obtain a copy of the series on DVD from shops from London to Edinburgh and via the BBC website but it seems to not exist.
Does anyone know if it can be purchased and where? Does the BBC plan to issue it at all or is it deemed to be not popular enough? Heaven knows there seem to be so many DVDs of substandard content issued by the corporation - surely there must be room for something really rather good. After all, I believe these programmes should be required viewing for all children of all faiths in all schools in this country.

I second that emotion. And for the special A Very Polish Practice. Also would really like The Last Detective. Series One has been released but not the other three. Another Peter Davison show was Distant Shores and it was like a forerunner to Doc Martin. Wouldn't mind that being on DVD either.

I'm with you on this one. It does seem incredible that there isn't a dvd release. Even a region 1 release would be something. Okay, it would be ideal to have extras such as retrospective interviews and the like, but even a plain no-frills dvd release would be cool.
