Six new bodies recovered from crash

A French navy ship has retrieved six more bodies from the Atlantic Ocean, where an Air France airliner went down nearly two weeks ago, a Brazilian military spokesman said. The find brings to 50 the number of bodies recovered.

By News Wires (text) / Regane Ranucci (video)AFP - A French navy ship on Friday recovered six more bodies from the Atlantic Ocean where an Air France airliner went down nearly two weeks ago, a Brazilian military spokesman said.
Brazilian military spokesman general Ramon Cardoso said the bodies had been picked up at sea by the ship Mistral.
The find brings to 50 the number of bodies recovered in the wake of the crash of the plane, which went down over the ocean on the night from May 31 to June 1 with 228 people on board.
Cardoso said the search for the remains will continue until there is no more hope to recover any new ones.

I have been involved in design and analysis of aircraft structures. If the vertical tail would have been ripped apart during the crash, I would expect at least some small part of the rear fuselage still attached to it. This points to the fact that it may have failed during flight. If this is the root cause of the crash, it may be due to a very strong lateral gust (turbulence) or vibration induced due to excess speed. If auto-throttle kicked in and caused aircraft to overspeed due to lack of speed data, severe vibrations may start at the tail section overstressing the structure. All victims, rest in peace, and condolences to all loved ones of the victims. I hope they can recover the black boxes to find out what exactly went wrong and prevent it to happen again.

With the vertical stabilizer/tail/rudder having fallen so far from the rest of the plane and with it still having some of the hinges/fuselage attached; they are saying it seems to have come apart from the plane BEFORE it hit the water and may be the cause. This would point to a failure of the composite materials. Also, some say that the condition of the water bottles show that the plane did not open at 35K feet but at a lower altitude, possibly dropping like the Quantus (autopilot shutoff problem) flight then leveling off and then breaking apart. Oh, what a horror! I feel terrible about the people aboard and those who love them and I pray they were spared the pain of the physical trauma as well as the horror (retroactively since God transcends time). Airbus can fix these issues and move forward to build an even safer craft. They are a great company.

Key to understanding operational failing is absence of mayday

About three days after the Airbus accident I speculated that the flight crew were clearly rendered non-functioning at the cataastrophe. My argument was that the cockpit had 'failed' to function due to a pressure loss or sudden fire. I read that an Airbus made an emergency landing in Siberia a few days back due to a cracked windscreen. No amount of electrical failures should have prervented the crew sending a Mayday unless the crew was already compromised.

While I appreciate the tireless efforts made to retrieve the victims' bodies, I also think the efforts
are getting more of covering up the already known but undisclosable secret behind the crash maybe for
political and business reasons coz rate of recovery at such a wide and deep place makes it sure that the
missing black boxes could have been found already by these very ABLE experts.
Truth is coming nomatter how long it is going to take us. To the innocent victims high in heaven there I say," Rest in Peace."

Snakedoctor3122: The A330/340 is undoubtedly a safe plane, as there are about a 1,000 out there and flying every day in all sorts of weather and conditions. The worrying thing is not knowing what caused the accident and a similar incident in your country QF72 on 7 October 2008 is being investigated by your own ATSB and have issued a preliminary report but could not pin point the problem. Read the report, it WILL make you think.... Nevertheless one mustn't jump to conclusions and take into perspective that it is a safe airplane, as there are a 1,000 out there and flying every day.

I JUST WANT TO THANK GOD FOR A BREAKTHROUGH IN ATLANTIC OCEAN THIS IS A HAND OF GOD. AND TO THOSE WHO ARE IN SORROW MAY THE ALMIGHT GOD COMFORT THEM. ESPECIALLY THE SEARCHING CREW GOD TO GUIDE THEM UNTIL THEY FINISH THEIR WORK.

The only logical conclusion is that they should be looking at the electrical power supplies to the aircraft .is it possible that lightening could make all the systems ineffective in servere weather conditions.?.or the computerisation power supplies independently.

Reliability

The saga about the unfolding of the speed sensors unreliability is certainly non reassuring. Off course Airbus knows as how many planes use this type of sensors , where, which Company, the data base of the rate and occurence failures must be massive. It can be tracked back to specific time, place, altitude, weather for each fail;ure reported. Why have some airlines opted to make changes themselves or order different type of sensors ? instruments ? It looks like the pilot and French union got fed up with the why and may be scenario and have taken over from the politics. So what is so different about supersonic speed planes / jet fighters (Concorde) and other manufacturers (Boeing) they do not ice up ?
