MALOOF SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
PROMOTING READING AND LITERACY

KINGS READING AND LEARNING CENTERS

Reading is the central focus of giving at Maloof Sports & Entertainment. The Kings work hands on in the community by refurbishing and building Kings Reading and Learning Centers. Locations may include, but are not limited to, school and public libraries, computer rooms, and non-profit community centers. Volunteer employees from Maloof Sports and Entertainment work on rooms or buildings in need of upgrades for students to read and study. The Kings also hold Reading Time Outs in hopes of encouraging a generation of children to read. This season, the Kings will sponsor new Reading and Learning Centers in areas of need in Sacramento.

KINGS READ TO ACHIEVE
Kings Read to Achieve

Read to Achieve is a year-round campaign to help young people develop a life-long love for reading and encourage adults to read regularly with children. Reaching an estimated 50 million children a year, Read to Achieve is the most extensive educational outreach initiative in the history of professional sports. The NBA Family wants kids to love to read and wants adults to love to read to kids. As a team, the Kings participate in reading time outs at schools, community-based organizations, at Reading & Learning Centers, in-arenas and wherever else it is possible to read.

TEACHER APPRECIATION PROGRAM

As part of our literacy initiative, the Sacramento Kings work with the Sacramento County Office of Education to help recognize the top teachers in Sacramento County. The teachers identified as Sacramento County Teachers of the Year by the Sacramento County Office of Education are invited to a designated Teacher Appreciation Kings game where they are recognized on-court at halftime for their efforts in the classroom.
