The movie that was shot in 2002 set out to discover just how complex a plot could be before it's perceived as being "without plot." In the new version the central story is very clear, and the subplots are even more intricate. However, the web of subplots is subtle, so if you cannot fully comprehend the underlying twists, it won't ruin your enjoyment of the story.
