SCHOOL DEADLINE: October 15, 2003

It's that time of year again and the CRA's Outstanding Undergraduate Award program has begun. Note, that Computing Science students have been successful with CRA in the last two years.

2003 - Bistra Dilkina received the Outstanding Female Undergraduate award
2002 - Mark Hancock received an Honourable Mention

This award is to recognize undergraduate students who exceptional promise in an area of importance to computing research. Nominees must attend a university or college located in the United States or Canada, and must be nominated by the department chair or a faculty member. Each department may nominate a total of two male and two female candidates. Preference is given to students in their senior year (or the equivalent). In addition to evidence of significant research contributions, the committee also considers the student's academic record and service to the community.

A cash prize of $1,000 is awarded to each of two undergraduate students, one female and one male, who are majoring in computer science, computer engineering, or an equivalent program. A number of other outstanding candidates are recognized with Honorable Mention. The awards are presented at one of the major computing research conferences sponsored by CRA, ACM, the IEEE Computer Society, SIAM, AAAI, or USENIX. The two first-prize winners receive financial assistance toward their travel to the conference. CRA encourages home departments to provide similar assistance to other students who are recognized.

The 2004 program is sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs.
