Prospective Students Certificate Admissions

SFU Burnaby

The Certificate program provides both part-time and full-time students admitted to any other degree program at SFU an opportunity to obtain an understanding of the fundamentals of computers and programming without necessarily specializing in Computing Science.

Courses in the program provide a solid foundation in computing science which is becoming increasingly important in today's knowledge economy. Students who complete the certificate program may choose to proceed to one of our other undergraduate options.

Click here for more information on second degree program requirements.

Upon admission to the Certificate program, students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor. Please bring along a copy of your SFU advising transcript which can be obtained from the Student Information System. Please sort by Term. Instructions on printing the advising transcript can be found under the section titled My Academic Information on the Student Information System Help files link found on the left-hand side menu.

Application

For new students not yet admitted to SFU:

Please refer to the Admissions page on the Student Services website for complete SFU admission requirements.

Fill out the online form at the Post-secondary Application Service of BC (PASBC) site.

Select Applied Sciences as your faculty, Computing Science as your subject area, and Cert in Computing Studies as your program/plan.

In two to three weeks time, you will receive an email from SFU containing your temporary user ID and password.

Use this ID and password to log into the Student Information System to pay your application fees and document evaluation fees (if any) by credit card.

Once you've been accepted to SFU, check out the new student welcome page which will assist you with all the essentials like getting a computing ID, enrolling in courses, paying tuition fees and lots of other useful information to help you start off right.

For current SFU students:

After completing at least 3 of the required certificate courses, you should fill in a Certificate in Computing Science Approval form and attach a copy of your advising transcript(s).

Drop off your completed certificate approval form and unofficial transcript(s) directly to the Computing Science main office. Completed applications can also be sent by postal mail. Read the administration form procedures carefully.
