We Bad!

“The special effects in STAR TREK are beyond reproach. They are furious and magnificently realized, and it’s clear to me that Abrams learned a little something from the way “Battlestar Galactica” space battles were staged and shot.” -Capone (AICN)

Save The Pegasus

The BSG VFX department was right across the street from Ronald D Moore’s office at Universal. We let our feelings be known. Ron loved it.

Phoning It In

you_won_dude

This is how we found out that Gary Hutzel and the team won the Emmy for VFX in BSG’s third season. Text messaged from the audience by VFX wiz Mark Shimer.

We were crankin’ to get Razor out the door, one giant show. BSG had been passed over three times before. If the show didn’t get it in it’s first three years, there was no chance in hell it was going to win this year, right? Wrong!

All Along The Watchtower

There was a cast and crew screening last night at the Television Academy in North Hollywood. I don’t believe I have ever been so profoundly touched by a television producer’s affection for his show, his cast, and his crew. As weepy as the finale was at it’s resolution, Ron Moore’s voice cracked and eyes welled with tears before it even began. Ron’s heartfelt affection for his show and his people is the foundation of this version of Galactica’s greatness. Because of it, Ron allowed his people unprecedented creative freedom. Ron always knew a good idea when he saw it. Ron’s decisions were never egocentric. Edward James Olmos, hugely in love with BSG, it’s creative team and environment, directed himself to the newbies on the crew saying that if this was your first experience in the business, then you have been ruined, because you may never experience this sort of freedom again. Wither Ron Moore’s Galactica? It really doesn’t matter… we have it’s legacy. So say we all!

Universal Studios men’s room –  Stage 12.

I said, “Do you think this is weird? Because I do.”

**Best response – L.M. Oliver  – I think what’s weird is that none of us quite pictured this as your job. After five years they give you a brush, right?**
