The Mapúa Institute of Technology suspended classes last Monday at its Makati campus for 10 days following confirmation that 2 of its students in the said campus are positive for the A(H1N1) virus. As an additional precautionary measure, all direct traffic of persons and goods between its Makati and Intramuros campuses have been blocked. Indirect means of transmission have also been determined and countermeasures have been devised.
Currently enrolled students of Mapúa Makati are advised that classes will resume on June 25 and that enrolment for the first quarter of Academic Year 2009-2010 will start on July 15, 2009. Furthermore, classes for the first quarter of Academic Year 2009-2010 will start on July 20. Incoming Mapúa Makati freshmen are likewise advised that their first day of school will be on July 20. The Mapúa website has reflected all changes in academic calendar. Mapúa Intramuros, however, will still open Academic Year 2009-2010 as originally scheduled on July 13.
Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, Mapúa President, said that “Mapúa authorities will meanwhile continue to implement all other measures, as it always has, to prevent the spread of the flu and safeguard the health of its community as well as of the general public.”
