Meet Anna Windass

debbie-rush-2410.jpgCoronation Street's newest family are the Windasses, due to debut in mid-November. They are Eddie (The Full Monty's Steve Huison) and Anna, their 19 year old son Carl, and Eddie's brother Len.

Debbie Rush, who plays Anna Windass, has been talking about her new role. "I went for the casting a few months ago and then was called back for the screen test. When I got the part I couldn't believe it, I was thrilled to bits," she says. She's a long-time Corrie fan herself: "I watched Corrie all the time growing up and all the family are tuning in now that I'm going to be in it. It's surreal, because the cast and characters are already part of your life just from watching it."

She's not giving away any plot spoilers, though we already know the Platts and the Windasses aren't going to be the best of friends, but she says, "The Windasses are a very close family, who are just about on the wrong side of the law, but they mean well. And yes, I am prepared for some of the things people might shout at me in the street because of the name!"

Why on earth bring in another new family when they were only just getting going with the Mortons and we had got used to them. Couldn't they have chosen a better name than Windass? I can see some humour coming out of that name (whoops!).

I only hope this new family are more interesting than the other bunch of dreary folk we have on the cobbles at the moment. Yes, I'm talking about the Connors, Dev, Prem and his wooden bunch, that boring character who's ridiculously shacked up with Kirk, the frighteningly unfrightening Stape (never believed him as a cabbie) that Polish bird in the factory, Becky Gurner (if that's not her surname it should be) the Scouser in the cab office who never drives cabs, that tall lass from the factory who's mysteriously appeared behind the Rovers bar. A new family is always a risk - the risk this lot will take is with dodgy plot-lines and crap lines.
I've watched and loved this show for nigh on fifty years and even I am growing tired of being disappointed.

Not another new family who are "on the wrong side of the law" - this was one of the most unappealing things about "Sinbad's" lot when they started. YAWN!!

Let's give them a chance before we diss them. As long as they don't drag along a steptoe lookalike grandfather who gets conveliently forgotten after a few months then they may just work.

Sounds like a rerun of the Mortons then.....
