Singapore, 24 June 2009 With four weeks to go before the curtain lifts at the most highly anticipated new development on Orchard Road, ION Orchard today showcased the lineup of several highly esteemed international and local F&B offerings that will complement its already impressive portfolio of fashion and lifestyle brands.
More than 21 per cent of the 640,000 sq ft prime location mall will is dedicated to food and dining options comprising a delectable range of international and local fare, from casual to fine dining; food stores and confectionary, and a gourmet supermarket.
Spread out over different levels of the mall will be a total of 28 restaurants and cafes; with the largest clusters on Level 4 (for fine dining) and Basements 2 and 3 (for casual dining). In addition, Basement 4 will feature ION Food Hall, home to the largest variety of international cuisine, foodstuff and snacks in one location, on Orchard Road – with no less than 80 food stalls and cuisines, guaranteed to satisfy all palates.
True to the mall’s promise to inject new and new-to-market concepts in our mall, about 60 out of the 125 food & dining options introduced will be new-to-market or new concepts. Exciting new-to-market restaurants and cafes include the chic XEX from Japan, highly successful Chinese restaurant chain from Malaysia, Canton-I; Gustimmo di Roma, an all-day alfresco Italian bistro from Seoul; the hip and trendy Japanese outlet Itacho from Hong Kong; widely popular Japanese cuisine, Watami; a new coffee joint from the Middle-East, Dr. Café; and Dunkin Donuts, making a return to the local market.
Innovative new food concepts by locally established food operators include The Nautilus Project, Sho Teppan, Lu Gang Xiao Zhen and Bread Society.
Other familiar ‘taste-makers’ can also be found at the iconic mall with their flagship outlets. These include TWG, a recently launched tea salon offering the largest selection of tea and tea-inspired cuisines, and Taste Paradise, one of Singapore’s best loved Chinese restaurants, which will set up their flagship establishments at ION Orchard. Established brands such as Burger King will also open at ION Orchard with a totally refreshed dining-cum lifestyle concept that features an unconventional, edgy look and personalized ‘sound zones’, a first of its kind for the brand in Asia.

Several celebrity chefs will make their debut in Singapore at the various new restaurants, including The Nautilus Project featuring Jason Dell and an open oyster bar; XEX from Japan, featuring the trio of Salvatore Cuomo, Genshiro Saito and Paul Bassett; and Soht & Baay, a Thai Restaurant featuring Apasara Navarojjanasakul.

ION Food Hall at B4 will serve up delectable dishes at some 58 food kiosks/shops, including a Japanese cluster which will feature up to 16 new-to-market specialty food, snacks and desserts direct from Japan and operated by established Japanese food chains, Balnibarbi, Bocca, Tokyo Monja, and Tsukiki Gindaco; while local favourites like Lim Chee Guan and Wei Xiang Yuan will set up new stores for the first time, outside of Chinatown. Popular favourites such as Famous Amos, Go India Express, Royce and Patchi, make up the wide selection available in this one tasty location that will appeal to Singaporeans and tourists alike. Also part of ION Food Hall are a further 23 stalls at Food Opera, a theme-styled 19,000 sq ft food court dishing out best-loved selections of local hawker fare and Asian delights under one convenient location.
Also to be expected are exciting food retail outlets, that will complete the list of food and dining selections. Gourmet supermarket, Three-Sixty from Hong Kong, making its first entry into Singapore, will showcase epicurean indulgences from Cordon Bleu, Fauchon, Dean & Deluca and Fortnum & Mason, and a wider selection of organic food and products. Premium coffee brand Nespresso will also open its first flagship outlet at ION Orchard, on Level 1, complete with its own premier tasting lounge.
By integrating carefully-selected food concepts with the retail offerings on each level, the landmark mall will provide shoppers with fitting food and dining options when taking a break from shopping. For example, Marmalade Pantry, ever popular with tai tais and expatriates, will sit alongside chic designer fashion brands on L3; while casual F&B options and quick-bites such as Provence Bakery & Café, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Cocoa Trees, Nippon Ya, Starbucks and Swensens are located close to music, sports fashion, gadget and accessory outlets in the basement levels.
“At the very outset we placed a strong emphasis on the Food & Dining offerings to complement our strong retail & lifestyle brands, making for a complete shopping experience,” said Ms Soon Su Lin, Chief Executive Officer of Orchard Turn Developments Pte Ltd. “We are extremely pleased with the selection of operators and their chefs who have been carefully selected, and who have been drawn to set up shop at ION Orchard.”
“As we approach our opening on 21st July we have achieved our targets on many levels: as of today, we have committed 94 per cent of leasable space; with 70 per cent of this being new-to-market retailers, new concept and flagship stores - exceeding our initial target of 60 per cent. We continue to select suitable retail concepts for the remaining spaces and we are confident that ION Orchard is on track to take its place alongside the world’s iconic malls, and will become the new destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment.”
Located at the gateway to Singapore’s most prestigious Orchard Road shopping strip, ION Orchard’s host of features will inject new vitality into the area’s streetscape, enhancing the shopping experience and contributing to the revitalization of Singapore as a shopping destination.
Key highlights of this iconic development are: a media wall borne from cutting edge technology layered across its walls and overlooking ION2, a fully sheltered public square for national events, gatherings and celebrations; ION Sky, a viewing venue that will give visitors a commanding and unhindered 360° panoramic view of the city from the highest point in this prime spot (opening end 2010); and ION Art, a dedicated arts programme that will feature some of the best Asian and Singapore contemporary works by established and emerging artists and designers.
