Tell FOX the News

For the second day running, FOXNews.com has printed "humorous" put-downs of John Kerry. Yesterday, a FOX spokesman apologized for printing reporter Carl Cameron's phony news about Kerry, whom Cameron covers for FOX. Did FOX, which was a sponsored link for Danrathermustgo.com until shortly after we revealed their connection, give Cameron (who knew the statements were false) the same heave-ho it thinks appropriate for Rather (who thought his story was genuine)? No.

"Carl made a stupid mistake which he regrets," (FOX spokesperson Paul) Schur said Friday night. "And he has been reprimanded for his lapse in judgment. It was a poor attempt at humor."

Before you could say, "we are not amused," FOX did it again. Today's story by Jane Roh reports on "Communists for Kerry" as follows:

"We're trying to get Comrade Kerry elected and get that capitalist enabler George Bush out of office," said 17-year-old Komoselutes Rob of Communists for Kerry.

Even though he, too, is a capitalist, he supports my socialist values more than President Bush," Rob said, before assuring FOXNews.com that his organization was not a parody group. When asked his thoughts on Washington's policy toward Communist holdout North Korea, Rob said: "The North Koreans are my comrades to a point, and I'm sure they support Comrade Kerry, too."

It is unclear whether the Kerry campaign has welcomed the Communists' endorsement.

A simple click on the hyperlink in the article makes it clear "Communists for Kerry" is a Republican group. Did Roh not bother to find that out? Or did she just not bother to report it? Either way, there's no excuse.

Real Journalism, Fair and Balanced? Now that's a joke!

Tell FOX it's time they got it.

FOX is all gung-ho to have Dan Rather fired, but call Carl's fabrication of the truth just a prank.

--FOX, which was a sponsored link for Danrathermustgo.com until shortly after we revealed their connection--

That site has a page of links. It doesn't say "sponsored" links. According to the site it has NO sponsored links. Maybe it used to say "sponsored links" but if they were truly sponsored links (Fox and the other four) how does it happen that none of them are sponsored links now? Did they all cancel their "sponsorship" at the exact same time?

Is it more likely that the Einstein who created that site simply put up "sponsored links" for a list of some of his favorite websites? Then when someone brought it to his attention, he changed it to just "links" and dropped foxnews (possibly on request of FNC, if in fact people did email them about it)?

--FOX is all gung-ho to have Dan Rather fired--

Other than Hannity, who is in a world of his own, who on Fox has called for Dan to be fired?

Simply put, Cameron should go even if he was fatigued. This "Fair and Balanced" network has jumped off the cliff. Who knows what is next, Kerry sucks own toe? Whatever, the point is Fox just lost what little credibility it had.

Don't you just love these 'overall averages' for Pres. Bush? It reminds me of a 'report card'. I don't think it shows 'fair & balanced' to me. Isn't it the latest marks that count?

Fox has been exposed. Keep up the attack. Other real news organizations should go after Fox too. Kerry should ban Crazie Karl from the campaign.

I am so sick of Johnny $ defending FAUX news time after time. You must be getting paid by Faux or something.

Why can't you admit it. Faux News is and always has been a GOP Propaganda machine. Wake up dude. Be a man not a little bitch.

Don't be rude, neo.

Great job Ellen. Initially I thought you could not pay me enough money and supply me with enough blood pressure medicine to watch Fox.

I was wondering though --is your gig is a little easier now that Fox's schtick has reached comical status (albeit in a pathetic Joe McCarthy kind of way).

They've edited the story!

It now says: " the Communists for Kerry (who, in fact, are rooting for Bush)" and they've removed other text.

Is there a correction from them anywhere?

Posted by: Semblance at October 3, 2004 12:59 AM

I called the number listed, got a real person, and complained about their distortion of the news. The person on the other end first said that the news on the website had changed, and then when I showed that it hadn't, said that he didn't make editorial decisions.

Call FOX NEWS and complain about their distortions!!!

Are we also talking about this:

Those sneaky buggers! I looked at Roh's item not a half hour ago, and it had not been changed, yet.

Well, perhaps someone from FoxNews reads Newshounds and figured the jig was up.

Way to go, folks. Please keep the pressure on these turkeys --- it's finally paying off!

Speaking of danrathermustgo.com, check out the "odd" results of their survey:

Fox "Editors" do not even know basic English grammar.

You would think a retraction in the editor's note would garner the proper use of "a" not "an". From Fox website:

"In an version of this article that was published earlier, the Communists for Kerry were portrayed as a group that was supporting John Kerry for president."

Posted by: dave at October 3, 2004 01:33 AM

This just in: Stalin rallies support for Kerry.

Posted by: MarkF at October 3, 2004 02:15 AM

J$,

You are correct that Danrathermustgo.com now has a page of links but it *did* say "sponsored links" and it said so when FOXNews.com was linked there. I have no idea why the change occurred other than to surmise that FOXNews.com got wind of the link and asked them to remove it. You could well be right that FOXNews did not knowingly have its link there. I had no way to know that, other than to look at the evidence in retrospect.

You write:
Other than Hannity, who is in a world of his own, who on Fox has called for Dan to be fired?

Isn't Hannity enough? Whatever world he's in, it's also FOX primetime world, que no? It's hard to think of him as a renegade employee.

But putting Hannity aside, the relentless drumbeat of "memogate" talk, talk, talk on FOX with all their favorite spokespeople condemning Rather, it makes it pretty clear where the network stands regardless of whether Roger Ailes holds a news conference and says Rather should resign.

Larry,
FOX has always been good for a laugh. When I was doing the Outfoxed research, I would crack up almost every time I read one of the other researchers' email reports.

FOX is still a joke, IMHO, but it's a deadly serious situation.

Ya gotta laugh or go crazy, though.
