Andy Murray's defeat by Andy Roddick in Wimbledon semifinals brings BBC more ratings riches and schedule rejigs

Andy Murray's Wimbledon semifinal defeat on Friday 3 July brought more ratings riches to BBC1, with a peak audience of 10 million as the match ended in victory for Andy Roddick.

BBC1 was again forced to rejig its evening schedule as the match ran past 6pm, when live Wimbledon coverage was scheduled to switch to BBC2.

Instead, the BBC1 6pm national news and 6.30pm regional bulletin were shifted to BBC2 as the Murray/Roddick semi final went on into a fourth set.

BBC1's live coverage of the Murray match averaged 7.6 million viewers and a 50% share over just over three hours between 3.30pm and 6.45pm.

Viewing peaked with 10 million in the quarter hour from 6.30pm as Roddick won the fourth and deciding set.

Overall, BBC1's Wimbledon coverage on Friday afternoon averaged 6.3 million viewers and a 47% share between 1.45pm and 7pm.

Later on Friday, the Big Brother eviction show attracted 2.3 million viewers and an 11% share between 9pm and 10pm, with a further 100,000 watching on Channel 4 +1 an hour later.

The Big Brother live eviction interview also drew 2.3 million viewers, a 13% share, between 10.35pm and 11.05pm. Another 100,000 saw the interview on Channel 4 +1.

In the 9pm hour Big Brother lost out to a Doc Martin repeat on ITV1, which had 3.7 million viewers and an 18% share, and BBC1's Hotel Babylon, with 3.4 million and 17%.

Channel Five's NCIS repeat brought in 1.4 million viewers and a 7% share in the 9pm hour.
