Rep. Heinrich spoke on the House floor in strong support of the Statutory Pay-As-You-Go Act, which requires Congress to offset the costs of tax cuts or increases in entitlement spending with savings elsewhere in the budget, thereby restoring fiscal discipline to the federal government. The bill passed the House by a vote of 265 to 166.

Heinrich to Work with House Leadership on Freshman Priorities
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich was elected President of the Democratic Freshman Class of the 111th Congress.
“I’m honored to have the confidence of my peers and I will work with them in the coming months to advance the agenda of change that our constituents voted for in November,” said Heinrich.
As President, Rep. Heinrich will serve as the chief liaison between the freshman members of Congress and the Democratic Leadership. Rep. Heinrich will facilitate class priorities and work to communicate best practices with fellow class members. Rep. Heinrich’s term as President will last six months.
