Camouflage and markings

When the first Gladiators were delivered to 80 Squadron they were Aluminium overall. This continued up to the Munich Crisis when they received a camouflage pattern of Dark Earth/Stone on the upper surfaces of the wings and fuselage. The under sides remained Aluminium. When the crisis was over the Gladiators reverted back to Aluminium. At the outbreak of WWII the Gladiators were once more camouflaged, this time in Dark Earth/Dark Green upper surfaces with White/Black/Aluminium under sides. In June 1940 Sky started to replace the White/Black/Aluminium under sides. By the time the squadron moved to Greece they probably all wore this new colour. Squadron codes were OD pre-war and YK after the declaration of war. They were in Grey on the fuselage. Aircraft in Greece may not have carried the Squadron codes, just individual letters.
