John Slaton and Nancy Ann Harris Slaton were early settlers (c. 1835) in the present-day Prattville, Alabama area. Their descendants included a Governor, a congressman, a Civil War hero who was a founder of the school that became Auburn University, and descendants who today still live near the family homestead.
John was born 10/2/1795 in Boone, Kentucky to Willoughby Slaton and a mother who died within a few years. John was at least a fifth generation Slaton in America, the first four generations being native Virginians. John's father Willoughby was born in Cubb Creek, Charlotte, Virginia, and lived in Kentucky and Georgia before settling in Clarke County, Alabama.
