iPhone 3G/3G-S Tethering

AT&T, Apple, Internet, Networks, Technology, WiFi

For those of you that happen to have an iPhone 3G or are getting an iPhone 3G-S this is a must read. (please note, links are provided for those that have no idea what I am referencing so they can find out)

As you all know Apple has recently upgraded the iPhone OS to 3.0, on the laundry list of features is Internet Tethering. AT&T claims not to support it but in fact it works like a charm showing up as standard iPhone Data usage. Now you may be thinking, I have a BlackBerry, I can tether with it if i pay $30/month, why is the iPhone so cool? Simple. Over the 3G connection on the iPhone 3G/3G-S you can be in a call with the handset or using a Bluetooth headset, you can be texting and using the internet on that nice MacBook. But not only can you do all that at the same time. You can take that shiny new MacBook, ans share the connection out to the Wireless and Ethernet adaptors (yes, both at the same time). Meaning you can connect 2 clients via the WiFi interface and 1 or more (would need a hub or switch) clients via the Ethernet interface. This means you can provide an internet connection to a decent sized group of people anywhere you go.

The Epic Fail that is Comcast’s Billing

Business, Comcast, Customer Service, Social Media

ComcastFor those of you who have, or are thinking of getting Comcast, read this.

First off, I have been with Comcast since September of 2008. In that time I have found the service to be decent and in some instances even reliable. However the company themselves, leaves more to be desired.

A Quick Look at Streaming on the iPhone

AT&T, Apple, Internet, Technology

When most people think of streaming music on the iPhone, apps like Pandora and Last.fm come to mind, however with the release of 3.0 on the horizon, another method has arisen.

What I’m talking about is the rework of CORE Audio in 3.0. This nifty little upgrade allows for such things as the interface to the bluetooth stack for stereo audio over Bluetooth. Another nifty little bit of this is that you can now enter the URL of an MP3 or AAC stream into the address bar in safari and have the CORE audio process play this stream.

A Quick Thought About iTunes and Public Schools

Apple

I received a call over the weekend from my sister who, being 6 years and change younger than me and still in the public school system, was given an assignment by a teacher to read a book and do a report about it.

Sounds easy right? Well the book the teacher assigned for the class to do the project on is long since out of print. Not only was it out of print, but her school’s library had no record of it, nor did the public library.

A Few Words on Relationships

Relationships

If you are in a relationship, this is for YOU!

  • If you’re in a relationship, and the other person ignores you, or talks down to you, it’s a huge sign that you need to move on.
  • If the other person lies to you all the time, it’s a bad sign. Either they think you’re stupid or unobservant.
  • If the other person does not respect your opinions or ideas, it’s a sign you need to move on.
  • If the other person constantly wants you to change your appearance (lose weight, dye your hair, etc) when you are ok with how you look, it’s time for you to make like an atom and split.
  • If the other person is abusive or violent, make like Michael Jackson and beat it. (as in leave not as in hit the other person)

A Bright Side to the Death Star

AT&T, Apple, Technology

As some of you well know, we here at All That’s Evil like to point out the blatantly stupid things in the world, you probably also know that we aren’t huge fans of AT&T or Death Star communications as we like to call them

However, (come on, you knew it was coming) AT&T has recently impressed me. No, not the grab bag of people they have at the call centers that are supposed to provide support, they still genuinely suck as a whole. No, I am referring to the unbelievable quality of their network.
