One of our readers, Melissa, passed this along:

I heard on the Today Show this morning that the Today Show gang is heading out to Key West on May 5th to Mile Marker 0 and Jimmy Buffett will be playing a concert there with the Today Show.

(hat tip to Melissa for passing this along)

Update - The Today Show’s website has more:

For one week this May, America’s first TV family will be spending more than just their mornings together. Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Al Roker and Ann Curry will pack their bags and head to some of America’s most beautiful destinations. TODAY Takes a Vacation, a five-day series, begins Monday, May 4.

Lauer added details about the anchors’ itinerary for Tuesday, May 5. “We’ll travel to mile marker zero in Key West, Florida,” he said. “From the southernmost point in the U.S., we will look for sunken treasure. And you can’t go to Key West without a little music from Jimmy Buffett, who’ll greet us with a live concert.”

From Under My Lone Palm: Off To See The Lizard

posted April 22nd, 2009 at 10:43 am by Josh Martin · No Comments

In this month’s “From Under My Lone Palm”, Justin takes a look back at the 1989 album “Off To See The Lizard”:

“Off to See the Lizard” was an album that was actually never meant to be. In 1988, Jimmy had released “Hot Water”, which once again failed to produce the major radio hit that Buffett seemed to desire. But the summer tour was once again a success, so Jimmy had that going for him. After all of that, Jimmy hadn’t planned to record a new album, no doubt because he just didn’t fill like it was time for it. But MCA had different plans. “There was a big push on me to make records with `star’ producers, but that didn’t excite me much,” Buffett said.

Review Of Tuesday’s Charlotte Show

posted April 22nd, 2009 at 10:17 am by Josh Martin · No Comments

Scott Fowler at the Charlotte Observer has a review of Tuesday night’s Jimmy Buffett show in Charlotte: “Buffett takes Parrotheads to beach”

OK, picture this – a 62-year-old man, slightly chubby, wearing a salmon-colored T-shirt and patterned board shorts. He is barefoot and balding.

Let’s say this man wants you to listen to him for 2½ hours as he tells the story of his life.

Would you do it?

Around 18,000 did so Tuesday night in Charlotte, as tropical troubadour Jimmy Buffett cavorted around the stage at Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre like a kid who just saw the beach for the first time.

Summerzcool Tour Stops in Charlotte

posted April 21st, 2009 at 10:04 pm by Justin · No Comments

The Summerzcool tour moved east tonight as Jimmy and the band invaded the Coast of Carolina for the next show on the Summerzcool Tour in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Tonight’s changes started early as “Coconut Telegraph” moved into the second spot, replacing “Stars on the Water.” “A Lot to Drink About” continued to move around, this time landing at the end of the first set. The second set remained basically the same, the only change being “Gypsies in the Palace,” which was inserted into the set instead of “Fruitcakes.” For the encore, “We are the People our Parents Warned us About” was back in, as was “He Went to Paris” as the final song.

Review Of Frisco Show

posted April 19th, 2009 at 8:01 pm by Josh Martin · No Comments

The Dallas Morning News has a review of Saturday night’s Jimmy Buffett concert at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas: “Jimmy Buffet Concert At Pizza Hut Park Had Plenty To Please Parrotheads”

For a few hours Saturday night, the waves were kissing the shore and the palm trees were swaying in a soccer stadium in landlocked North Texas.

The eternal slacker-surfer-seadog Jimmy Buffett brought his Summerzcool Tour to Pizza Hut Park and allowed about 27,000 of his dedicated fans to get in touch with their inner parrots.

Fronting his 11-member Coral Reefer Band, the barefooted Buffett bounced around like a kid who had just tossed his text books and headed for the beach. His 2 ½-hour set concentrated on his classic songs while throwing in just a few less-expected numbers.

Summerzcool Tour Hits Frisco

posted April 18th, 2009 at 10:57 pm by Justin · 1 Comment

“The sunshine has returned to Texas” remarked Jimmy as he and the band kicked off the next show on the Summerzcool Tour tonight in Frisco, Texas.

The Frisco set was basically the same set as Atlanta, with a few differences of course. “Fruitcakes” was an on-the-spot audible in the second set, bouncing “A Lot to Drink About” into the final encore slot. Another surprise was the appearance of The Lost Verse during “Margaritaville”. But by far the surprise of the night was in the first encore instead of the second as “Livingston Saturday Night” made its first appearance in a set list since April 14, 1995 in Charleston, South Carolina. This was also the first outing of the song without Greg “Fingers” Taylor as Doyle Grisham filled in nicely with a pedal steel solo. Looks like sunshine has indeed returned to Texas.
