Part of Antonín dvorák: List of Works

9 August 1841 - 5 January 1904

Dvorák left a large body of chamber music. He used quite a range of settings, and in all of them he succeeded in writing real gems.
The excistence of some of the works isn't totally sure (both pianotrio's B.25 and B.26 for instance). When asked, Dvorák assured that he had written them, but had probably destroyed them later. That's a real shame of course, but still there is much to enjoy!

Solo's with pianoforte-accompaniment

Dvorák wrote duets only for string instrument with piano accompaniment, however of the early works only the 1st Cello concerto survived the stove.
First performances were given of his cello and 1st violin sonatas, but he didn't think the standard of the sonatas was high enough, so both of them were destroyed.
The popular Romance is a former second part of the string quartet No.5. Similarly, the Nocturne is the second part of string quartet No.4.
Of the Polonaise only a copy of the original score exists. But the copyist said that it was honestly copied from a Dvorák score:))) Just before Dvorák moved to New York to accept his new accignment as director of the National Conservatory he made a big goodbey-trip through Bohemia, which offered as main piece the Dumky Trio.
He thought it nice to give the cellist and violinist also some solo repertoire, so he arranged three Slavonic Dances and the 5th piece Klid (silent Woods) of From the Bohemian Forest op.68 for is trip that continued through the United States.
