AKA Gallery Inc.

AKA is located in the Saskatoon Warehouse Artspace along with Video Verite, Tribe, and The Photographers Gallery. Our activities include exhibitions, screenings, workshops, readings, and artist talks. AKA prioritizes non-commercial art with a focus on work informed by diverse cultural communities. AKA is dedicated to growth, dissemination and experimentation in the arts.

 

   Art Gallery of Regina

Opened in 1974 and located in the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre in Regina's Les Sherman Park, the Art Gallery of Regina is an independent, non-profit public arts gallery featuring contemporary art with an emphasis on Saskatchewan's artists. In addition to art exhibitions the Gallery offers an extensive public education program involving lectures, tours, visiting artist events, seminars, workshops and demonstrations.

Broadway Theatre

Due to its prime location, unique history and its commitment to cultural entertainment, the Broadway Theatre has the potential to promote the many facets of Saskatchewan's multi-cultural community. The Theatre provides diverse programming for people of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, and special needs, and promotes the use of the Theatre by many cultural and social organizations for special screenings, ethnic film festivals, and special events (i.e. concerts). As such, the Theatre is at once a community cultural centre and a window on the world.

   Buffalo Berry Press

In its nineteenth year of publication, BlackFlash is one  of the longest running art publications and one of three  photographic-based art journals in Canada. The  magazine aims to nourish innovation in photo-based and electronic art production, promote energetic debate, and showcase diverse voices and communities (local,  regional, national, and international). BlackFlash reviews exhibitions and installations, features critical commentary on artistic theory and practice, reviews books, profiles emerging as well as established artists  and writers, records the history of artistic institutions, and calendars exhibitions, lectures, and workshops.

 

   Chapel Gallery

The Chapel Gallery is one of two galleries owned and operated by the City of North Battleford. It is situated in the spacious and beautiful chapel which once was part of St. Thomas College. This gallery offers Saskatchewan artists an opportunity to exhibit their art and is particularly interested in providing a starting place for emerging Saskatchewan artists.

 

   Common Weal Community Arts Inc.

Common Weal Community Arts Inc. uses art as a tool for community development, based on creating partnerships between communities and artists. Our philosophy of inclusion and cooperation creates opportunities and choices for Saskatchewan people who do not otherwise have access to the arts because of social, economic, or cultural reasons. We have worked with communities in poverty, health centres, sex trade workers, inner city youth, Correctional Centres, First Nations communities, grandmothers, recent immigrants, and women in transition.

   Coteau Books

Coteau Books is a Saskatchewan-based literary press dedicated to publishing and presenting Canadian literary writing, with an emphasis on Saskatchewan and prairie writers. By continuing to develop new writers, and by fostering the careers of established writers, we present new voices and works of literary excellence to the people of our province, and to the world.

Cultural Festivals

Cultural Festivals of Swift Current operates a multidisciplinary mix of events throughout the year. The organization's activities include the Blenders music series that mixes art and music at the Art Gallery of Swift Current; the Stir Crazy Blues Festival; the Lazy Dayz Children's Festival; the Long Days Night Music Festival; and the Windscape Kite Festival. The festival's programming aims to include all ages and meets the needs of Swift Current's citizens at different times of the year.

 

   Curtain Razors

Curtain Razors, founded in 1989, is a theatre company that embraces innovation, diversity and experimentation in the performing arts to create new Canadian work that is challenging, thought provoking, and relevant. Based in Regina, the company collaborates with artists from Saskatchewan and beyond to produce and present for the theatre. Programming components include development and creation, production, presentation, and short-term residencies.

   Dunlop Art Gallery

Set within the Regina Public Library, one of Canada's busiest urban libraries, the Dunlop Art Gallery investigates contemporary visual art and culture, presenting ideas that resonate locally, nationally and globally. Dunlop Art Gallery is nationally recognized for its innovative and thoughtful curatorial projects, and is committed to the development of visual literacy. The Dunlop has actively investigated the relationships between contemporary art and popular culture for over two decades.

 

Flicks: Saskatchewan International Children's Film Festival

Flicks is a dynamic association dedicated to exposing, educating and celebrating the genre of culturally diverse international for children and youth cinema in the Saskatchewan communities through annual film festival events and programming.

Each year the Flicks International Film Festival for Young People presents a three-day festival in the Broadway district of Saskatoon, complete with excellent films from across Canada and around the world. Along with the screenings, it offers workshops for children and youth exploring various aspects of filmmaking and a Flicks Film Forum.

 

Free Flow Dance Company

Free Flow is a leading edge Canadian Dance Company known for its innovative and risk-taking modern choreography.

The driving philosophy behind the company's projects is that dance is fun and should be accessible to people of all ages and interests.

Founded in 1995, the company has performed in venues all over Canada including Kitchener/Waterloo, Ottawa, Guelph, Cambridge, Brampton, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria. In order to bring their art to an audience that may not otherwise seek out dance, much of their work has been performed in non-traditional venues and at Fringe Theatre Festivals.

   Gabriel Dumont Institute

The Gabriel Dumont Institute's Mission Statement is to promote the renewal and the development of Métis culture through research, materials, development, collections and the distribution of those materials and the development and delivery of Métis-specific educational programs and services.

   Globe Theatre

Globe Theatre is Saskatchewan's longest running professional theatre company. Founded in 1966 by Ken and Sue Kramer, Globe began as a children's touring company. In 1967 the theatre performed its first adult play, and in 1973 the company took up residence in its first main stage theatre space. Globe Theatre is Canada's sole permanent theatre-in-the-round and is located at the heart of downtown Regina, in Old City Hall Mall. Under the artistic direction of Ruth Smillie, the company produces a six-play main stage season, as well as a second stage cabaret series. The mission of the Globe Theatre Society is to create and produce professional theatre and make it accessible with a view to entertain, to educate and to challenge.

 

   Godfrey Dean Gallery

The Godfrey Dean Art Gallery is a Non-Profit Art Gallery dedicated to meeting the awareness needs of our diverse multi-cultural community through Educational Programming focused on Contemporary Art issues.

 

Gustin/Trounce Heritage Committee Inc.

Gustin/Trounce Heritage Committee Inc. is a non-profit volunteer organization and registered charity. Donations are directed to the principal works of Gustin House: research and dissemination of information on the Gustin legacy, support for the musical formation of youth, and presentation of recitals and musical events.

   Hagios Press

Hagios Press is a regional publisher with a national reach. Its focus on fine works by Saskatchewan writers remains strong, yet the press has a national presence. Many of the titles that Hagios has published to date have been by Saskatchewan writers. Hagios is committed to the development of new writers and their first books.

  

JackPine Press' mission is to showcase literary and visual multidisciplinary collaborations in a published, chapter book format; to provide writers and visual artists a venue to publish collaborative visual and textual dialogues; to produce integrated, unique book artifacts in tandem with the contributors, considering all materials of the book including binding, stock, cover, size, etc.; and ultimately to create hand made books that are as interesting as art objects as they are engaging works of literature.

 

John Arcand Fiddle Fest

The John Arcand Fiddle Fest became a registered non-profit organization in 2001. Its mandate is to promote and preserve fiddle music and dance and provide a forum to showcase youth, talent and culture. The festival has become one of the largest of its kind in Western Canada and is successfully passing on the traditions of the elders in fiddle music, dance and Métis Culture to higher numbers of people every year.

   Kenderdine Art Gallery

The University of Saskatchewan's art collection began almost as soon as the University was established. The first acquisition was made in 1911 and the collection now comprises approximately 4,000 objects and includes many important examples of Canadian and International art.
In October of 1991 a new era began when the Kenderdine Art Gallery opened in the then new Agriculture Building. The Gallery provides a venue to showcase the permanent collection for students and members of the University, the City of Saskatoon and the general Saskatchewan public. The Kenderdine Gallery works across a broad Saskatchewan community, organizing and collaborating on projects with other arts organizations, university departments and diverse community groups. The collection also maintains a wide range of archival material concerning its programming, exhibitions and the represented artists and works in the collection.

 

   La Troupe du Jour Inc.

Le Troupe du Jour develops community-based and professional French-language threatre by creating new works, training, production and outreach. It plays many different roles in the community: that of a professional company offering a local season of shows and tours, and that of a development organization that is responsible for stimulating and supporting the expansion of theatrical activity throughout the entire province.

   Living Skies Festival of Words

The Living Skies Festival of Words is a non-profit organization committed to celebrating the imaginative uses of language through literature, drama, storytelling, film, and music. Always part of the three-day July festival are programs designed for children and youth, all offered below cost. The festival works to promote literacy, improve writing skills and cultivate lifelong reading habits through the provision of stimulating experiences that appeal to a broad audience. As well, the Festival works year-round initiating author readings and presentations, concerts, school visits, innovative fundraisers and coffee houses for youth.

 

   MacKenzie Art Gallery

It was the bequest of Regina lawyer, Norman MacKenzie, that initiated the permanent collection of the Gallery which today numbers more than 3500 art works. The MacKenzie's mission is to serve the people of Regina and Saskatchewan by exhibiting, collecting, preserving and interpreting original works of art in order to enrich the quality of life and to maintain and develop art and culture in Saskatchewan.

 

   Mendel Art Gallery

The Mendel Art Gallery presents works of contemporary and historical art by local, national, and international artists in changing exhibitions including those organised for the Mendel Art Gallery by staff, adjunct, and contracted curators, as well as those from other galleries. The Mendelšs permanent collection (of more than 5,000 works in all media) is an essential resource for the appreciation, research, and understanding of art. Innovative public programs encourage public understanding and appreciation of art, and professional programs facilitate the practice and development of emerging and established artists and curators.

 

   Ness Creek Culture and Recreational Society

Ness Creek Musical Festival is a non-profit organization that exists primarily to create an annual festival to celebrate Music, Arts, Community and Ecology in the Boreal Forest.

 

   Neutral Ground

A well established independent artist centre in its 19th year of operation, Neutral Ground offers a continuous program of intense, thought-provoking and activated art events curated by artist-directors in the context of leading edge visual and media art. Acting as a catalyst for local artists, Neutral Ground and the Soil Digital Media Suite are organized to support artistic creation, collaboration and research in all media and to contribute to the professional practice of Saskatchewan artists and researchers.

 

   New Dance Horizons

New Dance Horizons was founded in 1986 as a non-profit arts organization dedicated to celebrating new visions in Canadian contemporary dance. Presenting original works by local and guest artists, New Dance Horizons opens a window on creation and innovation in the field of dance.

 

     Northern Saskatchewan International Children's Festival

The Northern Saskatchewan International Children's Festival held it's first festival in June of 1989. As a result of the success of the pilot festival, it was determined that it should be an annual event, taking place in the riverbank parks in downtown Saskatoon. To date, many very successful festivals have been held with over 275,000 tickets sold over the years. Their mission is to provide a multi-media festival of the performing arts, with the goal of challenging the minds and enriching the lives of children.

On the Boards Staging Corporation

On the Boards aims to encourage independent performing arts production by offering a company of professional support staff and resources for the artists. A non-profit organization, it provides production services (lighting, sound, technical staffing), box office and front of house services, customer service, audience development and marketing for independent performance productions at the Refinery, Arts and Spirit Centre in Saskatoon.

   paved Art + New Media

The word 'paved' stands for the range of convergent media encompassed by the Photographic, Audio, Video, Electronic and Digital arts. paved's mandate is to assist artists and independent producers creating and presenting innovative and ambitious work in these artforms. We provide production facilities, production support and residency programs, gallery exhibitions, film and video screenings, and a variety of off-site and on-line projects. We support artists in addressing concepts, attitudes and issues not accomodated by mainstream commercial media outlets. Our goals are to help artists achieve thier fullest potential, and to present challenging and accomplished examples of their work for public appreciation and debate.

As electronic media continue to pervade, diversify, and commodify experience, we insist that these very same media can continue to develop as behicles for alternative propositions about culture, society and the quality of subjectivity.

 

   Persephone Theatre

Persephone Theatre is Saskatoon's largest professional theatre company. Over the years, Persephone has enjoyed great success in presenting our community with productions of the highest quality, ranging from classic to contemporary theatre art. The theatre produces six plays during our season, which runs from September to April.

 

   Prairie Sculptors Association

Prairie Sculptors Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging greater understanding and appreciation of sculpture in the prairie provinces and advancing the skills of sculptors.

 

   Queer City Cinema

Queer City Cinema (based in Regina, The Queen City), is a curated biannual lesbian and gay film and video festival which programs works by independent queer artists that are conceptual, playful, innovative and provocative and that ultimately propose the idea that identity is not fixed but fluid, multiple and contradictory. Queer City Cinema seeks to preserve 'difference' as an essential and defining characteristic of queer artistic vision and sensibility.

 

Regina Folk Festival

The Regina Folk Festival was first held in 1969 on the Regina Campus of the University of Saskatchewan. Organized by a few individuals, the enthusiasm and support shown for this first event led to the creation of the Regina Guild of Folk Arts (RGFA) Since that time, the RGFA has continued to present both an annual festival (the Regina Folk Festival) and year-round music performances (the Regina Folk Festival Concert Series).

Regina Folk Festival Inc. has grown into a professional volunteer-run organization recognized for its contribution to local arts and culture. It is one of Canada 's most established music organizations and is proud to present Western Canada's longest running music festival.

   Regina Symphony Orchestra

The RSO is the Longest Continuously Performing Orchestra in Canada. It's mission is to promote and enchance the performance of live orchestral music in Regina and southern Saskatchewan, and contribute to the life of the city, province and nation.

 

   Sage Hill Writing Experience Inc.

Sage Hill Writing Experience offers a special working and learning opportunity to writers at different stages of development. Top quality instruction, a low instructor-writer ratio, and the rural and urban Saskatchewan settings offer conditions ideal for thepursuit of excellence in the arts of fiction, poetry, non-fiction and playwriting. The experience is: The summer adult experience in Lumsden, The fall poetry colloquium in Muenster, the teen writing experiences in La Ronge, Moose Jaw, Regina, Saskatoon.

 

   Sakewewak

Sakewewak is a Cree word meaning "they are coming into view" or "they are coming out of hiding." The name was chosen to reflect the community's vision for an organization that would facilitate the emergence of new artistic practices and support First Nations artists in developing projects that meet the challenges of identifying current and historical reference point and exploring contemporary artistic concerns. Sakewewak works to present important role models of First Peoples artists working to develop their cultures in a context that involves a life-long commitment to professional arts practice.

   Saskatchewan Book Awards

Saskatchewan Book Awards celebrates excellence in Saskatchewan writing and publishing and promotes the best of Saskatchewan books and authors. The Book Awards were established in 1993 by the joint efforts of the Saskatchewan Writers Guild, Saskatchewan Publishers Group and Saskatchewan Library Association.

 

Saskatchewan Cultural Industries Development Council The Saskatchewan Cultural Industries Development Council works with the Government of Saskatchewan to create a cultural policy and to implement the Cultural Industries Development Strategy. The Council also works to raise the profile of Saskatchewan's Cultural Industries and generate awareness of the impact our industry has on the economy and our way of life.

   Saskatchewan Filmpool

The Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative is a non-profit, artist-run centre which supports, encourages, and assists independent filmmaking in Saskatchewan. The Filmpool is committed to developing an awareness and appreciation of independent film which reflects the individual and collective cultural expression of Saskatchewan people.

 

   Saskatchewan Jazz Festival

Saskatchewan's largest music event, encompassing 10 days of diverse jazz styles as well as blues, worldbeat, funk and more. Free and ticketed concerts throughout Saskatoon plus concerts in Regina and throughout the province. Takes place the last week of June.

 

Saskatoon Jazz Society

The Saskatoon Jazz Society hosts live jazz at the Bassment (506-245 Third Avenue South in Saskatoon), featuring local, regional and national performing artists.

   Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company

Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company (SNTC) provides opportunities for emerging and established artists to develop their skills and interests in the performing arts with an emphasis on theatre. SNTC uses theatre as a tool to educate people on the richness and diversity of Aboriginal cultures which strengthens cultural understanding and promotes healing amongst individuals. Their programs include workshops, productions and tours including the Circle of Voices Aboriginal Youth Theatre Program, a unique cultural/theatrical experience for youth that provides basic skill building workshops in the performing arts and cultural teachings from mentors and role models that inspires and builds self-confidence.

 

Saskatoon Opera Association

Saskatoon Opera's mandate is to undertake, encourage and promote the production and representation of opera in Saskatchewan, using professional or amateur talent.

 

  

The Saskatchewan Playwrights Centre (SPC) is a unique playwright-driven organization that strives to foster the development of Saskatchewan plays and playwrights in a risk-friendly environment. SPC's programs and services are all based around the following objectives: to foster the development of Saskatchewan plays in a risk friendly environment; to develop but not to produce plays; to promote the Saskatchewan playwriting community in its relationships with government agencies, theatre producers, and the public; and to provide an annual series of professional workshops of new Saskatchewan plays.

   Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra

As the principal provider of symphonic music in the Saskatoon area, the vision of the Saskatoon Symphony is to aim for the highest possible artistic standards in all performances, whether they are classical repertoire, new or commissioned work, or performances in schools. They hope to contribute to creating a healthy artistic environment by developing the potential of their orchestra and by working with other artistic organizations into he community to develop their potential.

   Sask Terra

Sask Terra Group Inc. is a non-profit corporation registered in Saskatchewan, Canada which supports, develops and promotes works in ceramics by Saskatchewan artists. It was founded in 1997 and has approximately 50 members. It is administered by 6 board members. It serves Saskatchewan ceramists in and outside of Saskatchewan. Membership is also available for non-residents of the province.

 

   Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan’s tents have been a sure sign of summer in Saskatoon for many years. The festival is a non-profit registered charity incorporated in 1985, providing exciting contemporary and traditional productions of plays by Shakespeare and his contemporaries. Two full-length plays are performed in repertory by professional artists, as well as companion activities such as medieval feasts , workshops, tours, art displays, the Community Stage and Sir Toby’s Tavern and Riverside Deck. The festival runs from the first week in July until mid August.

 

   Station Arts Centre

The Station Arts Centre is an award-winning renovated CN Station that has been converted into an art gallery, seminar space, Tea Room and a Performing Arts Theatre. It presents an annual summer theatre to sold out audiences and will provide you with a unique cultural experience, a peek into the past, and good home grown food. The Centre is located beside the tracks on Railway Avenue as you enter Rosthern from Highway #11.

 

   Thistledown Press Ltd.

Thistledown Press is a thriving literary press located in Saskatoon. The company publishes adult fiction, young adult fiction and poetry by Canadian writers, with both a Saskatchewan focus and a Canadian presence. Thistledown also co-publishes Canadian writers in the U.K. and Ireland.

 

   Tribe Inc.

Tribe is dedicated to the development of independent venues where Aboriginal media, visual and performing artists can develop, create and present a variety of art forms on a consistent and scheduled program.

   25th Street Theatre Inc.

The mission of 25th Street Theatre Inc. is to promote innovative professional theatre which encourages audience, involves community and fulfills needs of Saskatchewan artists in pursuit of excellence. Some of the activities undertaken by the Theatre are the Student Mentorship Program, the Women's Arts Festival and, of course, the Saskatoon International Fringe Festival.

 

   Wanuskewin Heritage Park

The Wanuskewin Gallery's purpose is to:

• support the development of Aboriginal artists - by providing educational opportunities and information, through the exhibition and sale of a variety of Aboriginal arts and crafts, and through developing partnerships with other arts organizations.
• promote an appreciation, understanding and awareness of the importance and significance of Aboriginal artworks among the non-Aboriginal population - through exhibition and purchasing opportunities.

 

Wide Open Theatrical Escapades Inc.

Wide Open Theatrical Escapades is dedicated to performing entertaining shows with an educational tilt for families across Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta. All of the puppets used in performances are designed and built by the company.

Youth Ballet Company of Saskatchewan

The Youth Ballet Company of Saskatchewan is a non-profit organization which was officially established in 1983 by Vera and Gennadij Adrianow. Its mission is to enable youth to develop to their highest potential in classical ballet and contemporary dance and to foster public appreciation of dance.

The Youth Ballet Company consists of both a dance school and a performing company. The school offers classes in ballet, modern dance and jazz to students aged three to adult. The performing company performs at a variety of concerts, artistic and community events.
