With money tight all over, charities are having to search more for their donations, and those selling real estate are finding low prices and long waits to sell.
Mike Schuh reports those groups have come together in a unique way.
Keeping sixteen kinds of fire trucks working over a 50-square mile area takes a lot of cash.
"I'm just kind of worried now with the budget and the economy taking the downturn it has," said Chris Gibbons.
FallstonĀ VolunteerĀ Fire DepartmentĀ never stops.
"We do pit beef sales, and we do bingo," said Gibbons.
But beef and bingo don't compare to location.
"The idea came from the gentleman down in Annapolis who had the successful house raffle," said John Dietrich, homeowner.
It's a house raffle. Dietrich is raffling off his dream home.
Two of his three kids are out of the house, so they didn't need as much room.
"We built a mcmansion. We wished for it, and here it is," said Dietrich. "So I immediately said Fallston, they provide a great service for the community we live in."
"It sounds too good to be true," said Gibbons.
In a soft market, Dietrich gets full appraised value.
"If we sell the max tickets, the fire company could be looking at 120-plus," said Gibbons.
It's state sanctioned. The main way to fail is to not sell enough tickets. A refund would be in order if that happens.
"We'd have to refund all the ticket purchase price to the purchaser," said Gibbons.
If the eighteen to 21,000 tickets are sold by the end of November, that's when they'll have the drawing. But the state allows a four month extension to sell all the tickets, so the drawing could be held early next year.
You can purchase tickets online.
