REGNOSAURUS

(Sussex reptile; after the Regni, ancient people of Sussex) [stegbkg.bmp]
Stegosauria.
ERA: Early Cretaceous ( Valanginian - Barremian 137 - 121 Ma ).
SIZE: Length 4m (13 ft).
LOCATION: Europe.
FOSSILS: Fragmentary dentary , partial pubis , caudal spines, scute , rib.
COMMENTS: This dinosaur has been described at various times as Iguanodon, Hylaeosaurus and as a sauropod , but it is now recognised as a primitive stegosaur.
SPECIES LIST:
R. northamptoni Mantell, 1848 (type) including Hylaeosaurus northamptoni. This was once erroneously included with Chondrosteosaurus gigas. Possibly a senior synonym of Craterosaurus pottonensis.
