Khao Yai National Park is a hilly terrain with luxurious tropical vegetation. The beauty of this National Park lies in its five river courses. Khao Yai National Park History
Khao Yai established in 1962 is Thailand’s first national park and the country’s second largest in terms of extent. The hills are a primary attraction of this Thai national park. Khao Rom at 1351m, Khao Lam at 1326m, Khao Keaw at 1292 m, Khao Sam Yod at 1142 m, Khao Far Pha at 1078m, Khao Kampang at 875 m, Khao Samor Poon at 805m, and Khao Keaw at 802 m are the named hills of this territory.
Significance of Khao Yai National Park
National Park Khao Yai is an extraordinary place with five vegetation types thriving together. In addition to hill evergreen forests, this park is occupied by tropical moist evergreen forests, dry evergreen forests, dry deciduous forests, and grasslands. The flora ranges from ferns and mosses in the hill slopes, to strangling figs, rattan palms, climbers, ferns, epiphytes, and bamboos.
Coupled with its flora, the fauna is equally magnificent. Elephants, bison, sambars, barking deer, civets, porcupines, gibbons and wild pigs constitute the mammals of this forest. Macaques are the commonest form of primate and often found on roadside trees. In addition to reptiles of over 70 varieties, rare bird species also inhabit these forests. Hornbills, pheasant, Indian roller, trogons, kingfisher, bee-eaters, cuckoos, parakeets, swifts, and owls are among the 200 bird species seen here.
Things to do
The best way to explore these forests is by cruising along the five main rivers of Khao Yai National Park in Thailand. Lam Ta Kong, Prachin Buri, Praplerng, Nakhon Nayok and Muag Lek are the five rivers traversing this forested and hilly national park. During the rainy season from June to August the forests become livelier with gushing waterfalls and pristine foliage.
Camping in these forests is a veritable attraction for which tents are available on hire.
Accommodation in Khao Yai National Park
Sak Phu Duen Hotel inside the national park offers accommodation for 24 people. Greenleaf Guesthouse and Khao Yai Garden Lodge in Pak Chong about 12 km from the forests are other nearby places to stay.

You can satisfy your gastronomic needs in the eateries in Zone I of Khao Yai National Park, or in the restaurants in Pak Chong.
