The Tigers remain unbeaten this pre-season following a 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.

Following the departure of Sam Ricketts to Bolton earlier in the day, Bernard Mendy was offered the first chance to stake a claim for the right back slot. Craig Fagan played down the right while Daniel Cousin and Caleb Folan were paired together up front.

City's first chance of the afternoon came from a third-minute corner but Cousin couldn't direct Kevin Kilbane's delivery on target.

The home side threatened on 20 minutes when Marcus Tudgay found James O'Connor, but he volleyed just over the bar.

It was then Darren Potter's turn to try his luck from 20 yards out, but his curling effort went too high.

Folan missed a good chance on 26 minutes, heading Fagan's cross wide when free in the box.

As the action switched back to the other end, Etienne Esajas drove a low shot just wide.

The next City chance fell to Fagan, but he scuffed his volley wide when he should have at least hit the target from 12 yards.

Matt Duke was forced to make a superb save six minutes before half time when Leon Clarke was put through by Tudgay's flick, the City keeper stopping the striker's powerful shot.

Half Time: Tigers 0-0 Owls

Unlike the previous three pre-season games, City made just three changes at the interval. Tony Warner replaced Duke in goal while Nick Barmby and Geovanni replaced Cousin and Folan. Fagan moved up front alongside Barmby with Geovanni initially playing on the right but having the freedom to roam across the field.

Warner was called upon to make the first save after the restart when Tudgay found space in the box at a corner to head goalwards, but the City keeper pushed the ball around the post.

A strong run from Dean Marney in the 57th minute saw him carry the ball past three players before firing off target from the edge of the box.

Wednesday went close to the opening goal when Akpo Sodje's deflected shot looped over Warner, but substitute Kamil Zayatte was on hand to clear from underneath his own crossbar.

The last five minutes saw City go close on a couple of occasions. Barmby's cross just failed to reach the unmarked Geovanni while Will Atkinson's cross-shot was cleared off the line.
