Liverpool’s Aurelio has revealed how manager Rafael Benitez ripped through the players at half-time of Tuesday night’s loss to Fiorentina in the Champions League.

The Brazilian admitted that it was the most irate he had ever seen Benitez, who he has played under for nine years.

“Yes, the manager was really angry. I think that was the most annoyed we have ever seen him, and he made a point, but really, we were all angry,” Aurelio said.

“He showed his frustration, and we all felt like that in the dressing room at half time, because it was so unlike Liverpool - it is not like to be unable to find a way to play against opponents.

“We didn’t really even need harsh words at half time - we all knew that we were not playing well and that we had to be much better. The manager just expressed that.”

Aurelio said it was now up to the players to put things right against Chelsea in the league this Sunday in what is almost a must-win games for the Reds.

“We have to show the real Liverpool on Sunday, because we know it was not good enough, we are annoyed with ourselves because we know how we played,” he added.

“In football you always have a chance to put it right and turn things to your favour and ours comes at Chelsea. It’s a good opportunity for us to get over the disappointment of losing here.

“It is a very important game in the Premier League, against a very strong side, and we have to recover from this result straight away and have the confidence we can do a good job again.

“We know how important it is. You have to get something against the top sides and keep improving if you want to win trophies.”
