Coventry City striker Leon Best was celebrating today after being named Coca-Cola Championship Player of the Month for September.
Best has been in scintillating form through September, netting five goals in as many league games. The frontman opened his account with a goal in successive games against Bristol City and Sheffield United respectively before securing a vital point against Middlesbrough with a last second equaliser. He rounded off an impressive month by bagging a brace in a thrilling victory away at Watford to help his side move up the Coca-Cola Championship table.
Also short-listed for the September award were Matty Fryatt of Leicester City, Kevin Nolan of Newcastle United and Scunthorpe United's Grant McCann.
Nicky Forster of Brighton & Hove Albion won the award in League 1 and Brett Pitman of Bournemouth was given the League 2 accolade.
The decision to present the Coca-Cola Championship Player of the Month award was made by the Coca-Cola Player of the Month awards panel which includes former World Cup referee Jack Taylor, on behalf of The Football League, Steve Bates, Chairman of the Football Writers' Association, Malcolm Clarke, Chairman of the Football Supporters' Federation and Steve Watts, Marketing Assets Manager, Coca-Cola Great Britain.
