Thiruvananthapuram , Oct 5 Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today flayed the ongoing Crime Branch probe into the boat tragedy that claimed 45 lives and alleged an attempt was on to make the steersman a&aposscapegoat&aposand save those responsible for the negligence. Instead
of a judicial probe, the government should appoint an expert committee headed by a judicial officer to probe the accident, Chandy
told reporters here."Now an attempt is on to put the blame and responsibility of the accident on the steersman," Chandy
He said the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Cherian Philip
should decide whether to quit the post as he had owned responsibility for the accident.
He also criticised Philip
for participating in the&apos Human
Chain&aposorganised by ruling CPI-M
to protest against ASEAN
pact on October
2, just two days after the accident. Instead
of supervising the rescue operations at Thekkady, Philip
chose to be part of&apos Human
Chain&apos, a political function of CPI-M, he said.
