"Slimy Thug For Hire" Behind Horton Ad Back With Impeach Obama Campaign

It was only a matter of time...

The far right has already called Obama a socialist, a communist, and a fascist, among other names, and has compared him to Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin. So it should come as no surprise that the organized Impeach Obama movement is now underway -- with a longtime conservative flamethrower at the helm.

Enough is enough. We're calling for the Impeachment of Barack Hussein Obama. And if you agree, you can join us right now.

That message greets visitors to ImpeachObamaCampaign.com, a slickly produced site that features frequent gratuitous use of the president's middle name, ominous photos that seem designed to accentuate his African features -- and an impeachment petition.

The effort is led, publicly, by Floyd Brown, a former GOP activist best-known for producing the Willie Horton ad that helped scupper Michael Dukakis's 1988 presidential bid, and who pushed for the impeachment of Bill Clinton as early as 1994 -- long before Clinton ever laid eyes on Monica Lewinsky.

But Brown -- who George Stephanopoulos once called "a slimy thug for hire" -- portrays Clinton as a giant next to Obama. "In hindsight, I long for the days of the Bill Clinton presidency," he said in an interview with TPMmuckraker. "Bill Clinton was ten times the president Obama will ever be."

The new campaign, which teamed with World Net Daily for its launch yesterday, is technically a project of the Policy Issues Institute (PII), a blandly named advocacy organization run by Brown and James Lacy, a southern California election lawyer. PII's registered address is the same as that of the three-person law firm run by Lacy, his wife Janice Lacy -- whose bio says she's a former deputy counsel for the Republican National Committee -- and a third person, William Wewer.

This isn't Brown and James Lacy's first collaboration. Last year, they teamed up on several right-wing oppo-research outfits that tried hard to Swift Boat Obama's presidential run. One ad produced by their "National Campaign Fund" sought to tie Obama, Drudge-style, to gang violence in Chicago, noting that as a state senator he had opposed the death penalty for gang-related murders.

The new effort might be described as part of Brown's campaign to define impeachment down. On the homepage of the new site, Brown argues that the phrase "high crimes and misdemeanors" -- the circumstances justifying impeachment, according to the constitution -- doesn't mean crimes in a legal sense. Rather, it refers simply to "bad behavior."

Talking to TPMmuckraker, Brown elaborated on that view. Properly understood, he said, impeachment is "like a recall in California" -- a political act. "It's a process by which you remove an incompetent president."

By that -- perhaps low -- standard, Brown argued, Obama more than qualifies. "He's basically handed our foreign policy off to the United Nations. His economic policies are destroying the value of the dollar."

"He's in over his head," Brown continued. "I am fearful for my country for the first time in my adult life."

Asked about the site's frequent use of the president's middle name, Brown offered the defense that Obama himself had used it, during the swearing-in ceremony at his inauguration.

Brown said the campaign had plans for other activities beyond the website, but declined to elaborate. Asked about the effort's financial backing, he said that he had built the website himself -- Lacy, too, "has been supportive" he acknowledged -- but that he expected that other sources of funding would soon materialize.

Floyd G. Brown is linked to birther lawyer, Gary Kreep, through the Western Conservative Political Action Conference (WCPAC)which sponsors an annual wingnut festival in California.

WCPAC 2009 is scheduled for next Friday and Saturday in Newport Beach. The featured speakers are Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and Ralph Reed (who is referred to as the founder of the Faith and Freedom Coalition). WCPAC 2008 starred Tom DeLay.

Brown is the former chairman of Citizens United and is closely associated with Young Americans For Freedom and the Reagan Ranch.

"I am fearful for my country for the first time in my adult life."

And that is exactly the problem, Floyd. I'm a hardcore political atheist but it doesn't take a rocket scientist (or even a christian scientist) to figure out that you should have been afraid while Reagan, 41 and 43 cut taxes for the wealthy while letting congress spend us into the poor house. At least Reagan and 41 had enough care for the future generations to retract the tax cuts when they realized the country was going to tank if they did not course correct. 43 decided to start a war, cut taxes, and allow both parties to spend into oblivion during his eight years. For those of us that can actually count, we've been afraid since Reagan. Clinton was the only leader that gave us economic hope (The others gave us other hopes -- noted). Unfortunately, 20 years of GOP leadership at the executive level have devastated us. I don't care where you pray. I don't care who you bang. Just don't enslave our children and grandchildren because you could not balance a check book. Smoke and mirrors, folks, don't get caught up in the Nobel Peace Prize crap, or Floyd, or the birthers... behind those games are people with money who know how to manipulate your heart strings so their pocketbooks can grow. BO should be placed under much higher scrutiny than 41 or 43, we HAVE to. The others have put us in such peril, we can not afford to look away from the books for one moment. GOP'ers, follow the money, not TV personalities and lame jokes. Too much at stake here.

"Properly understood, he said, impeachment is "like a recall in California" -- a political act."

The Orwellian bullshit continues. Apparently Mr. Floyd has never heard of the phrase "high crimes and misdemeanors." That's interesting, because I remember it being a general topic of discussion during the entire year of 1998 here in America.

Mr. Floyd is an enemy of honesty, the English language, the American people, and human decency. As, of course, those terms are properly understood.

Hurray!

This is so awesome I just want to hug it, and I hope the 9/12ers and the Beckers and the Steelers and the Limbaughers and all the rest of the people that realize but hate to acknowledge that their entire political ideology being relevant dies when they all go into the grave themselves embrace and hug and love this.

It will just speed up the death throes of modern conservatism.

IMPEACH BARRY!!!!

Brown lives in my county. Even most of people here find him deeply offensive. When he moved here a few years ago there was a story about him in the local paper and quite a few derogatory letters to the editor. It is surprising he would want to live in Western Washington. We are very blue and he has very few supporters in this area. It is not surprising to us that he is up to his old indecent habits.

Brown continued. "I am fearful for my country for the first time in my adult life."

So this bozo knows how the majority of us (meaning the entire world) felt for the entire prior administration!

Pretty funny though. This buffoon tries not only to gin up a bogus "impeachment" but also redefine the governing law. Dude is on a new swift boat to crazy town.

The ImpeachObama website quotes Ronald Reagan:

As the late former President Ronald Reagan once said, "If not us, then who; if not now, then when."

Excuse me, but Reagan's quote was ripped off from Hillel who would never have used it in this hateful context.

After all, another of Hillel's famous quotes was borrowed as well: "Do not unto others what you would not want done to you."

If this gets legs, the ideal Democratic response will be a full investigation of the President who should really have been impeached - Shrub. The warrantless wiretaps alone would be sufficient to send him to jail for a decade or two.

Oh for an iceberg in the Western Caribbean! What a "Titanic" moment that could be! Kind of like giving the world a giant enema. Of course, then we would have to detoxify the Western Caribbean.
