MP will repay expenses, if asked

By Ross Findon - Tuesday, October 13, 2009

MP Andrew Turner has pledged to repay any expenses he is asked to, following a controversial inquiry.
Mr Turner was among hundreds of MPs to yesterday receive a letter from Sir Thomas Legg, a former civil servant heading up the investigation into parliamentary expenses.
Mr Turner was asked to provide more information about some of his claims.
Some MPs have been reported as planning to fight any order to repay expenses that exceed retrospective limits set by Sir Thomas during the review.
However, Mr Turner said he would repay cash if he was asked to.
"All my claims were supported by documentary evidence but I have now been asked for some additional paperwork and I will provide this as quickly as possible," he said.
"If I am asked to make any repayment, I will, of course, comply with that request.
"This is the beginning of a process and I will make a further statement when Sir Thomas releases the final results of his inquiry, which is expected to be in three weeks’ time," said Mr Turner.
