  • Giants' TV ratings jump is third best in NFL to this point

    East Rutherford. N.J.

I now will give you random ratings information, then get a haircut.

WFAN's Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton secured their second consecutive first-place finish among men ages 25-54, adding the summer ratings period to their spring victory.

"Kings Ransom," the first of 30 documentaries in ESPN's "30 for 30" series, attracted only 645,000 viewers Tuesday - according to the Sports Business Daily - after getting a bad break when the Tigers-Twins playoff game lasted 12 innings, overlapping the film's time slot.

ESPN2 will televise Friday's deciding game of the WNBA finals, which through four games has averaged 521,000 viewers, up 65 percent from last year. The game starts at 8:30, which should be around the fourth inning of the Yankees game.

Speaking of the Yankees, their first game against the Twins averaged 4.3 percent of U.S. homes, up 23 percent over the Dodgers-Cubs game in the same time slot last year.

The game attracted 21.6 percent homes in the Minneapolis area and 13.4 in New York.

Through four games, the Giants are averaging 14.6 percent of area homes, up 25 percent from this point last year.

That's the third-highest jump in the NFL, behind only the Cardinals (48 percent) and Vikings (32 percent).

(The Jets are roughly even with last year, when they got off to a huge ratings start . . . for the same reason the Vikings have this year. Four!)

Overall, NFL games are averaging their highest viewership since 1989.
