Shammy steals all 3DMark records

Uses more tech than anyone, ever, period.

Overclocking records are never left unchallenged for long, and while the previous king's result had remained in place for a little while it has just been stolen well and truly by overclocker Shammy.

He got his hands on Intel's Core i9 processor with a whopping six cores on a 32nm manufacturing process and running at 6189MHz as well as four of ATI's latest 5870's running at 1300MHz on the core.

With this incredibly over-the-top processing power comes incredible performance results, letting him nab pretty much every 3DMark record ever conceived - stealing P52578 in 3DMark Vantage.

It's more tech than the average enthusiast is likely to use in even two years, but still great to see that the next wave of tech is going to bring a whole new wave of competition.

Head to the thread over at kingpincooling to read a little more, and check out his benchmark score below.

Intel i9 wouldn't be cheap. Is that Liquid Nitrogen cooling pot I spot above the cpu?

But can it run crysis? ;)

Yea 2shy you need LN to cool something like that, dice and phase would maybe get you ~5.4ghz but LN goes to something like -100c lower than the previous 2.

Having said that I am kind of over benchmarking, having discovered running your computer at stock is pretty much the same as having shitloads of heat being outputted and having a larger energy bill except it doesn't have the cons. I am loving the recent change of hardware I put into this SG03 (i7 860, p55m UD4, 1333mhz gskill ram) even if it wont compete with the guys with overclocked i7's its a hell of lot more practical taking up about a quarter the space of my P182 and it looks pretty cute.

I also don't see the point of i9, 32nm Westmere chips with the vga built in yes thats awesome but 6 cores with 12 threads is pointless considering AMD has nothing to compete for quiet some time.

He is one of the best overclockers in the world. That's why he got a Gulftown so early.

2SHY, yes every processor is LN2-cooled :)

Just the mobo, PSU and RAM that escape the clutches of nitrogen (oh, and the monitor/keyboard/mouse >.>).

Also a handy thing to know, kingpin makes all kinds of LN2 and DICE pots for hardcore overclockers - it's probably his pots used in the testrig!

Records are ment to be broken!. Though I value my i7 and wouldn't put it through that. I really dont see the point to i9 either it dosent have any purpose except for benchmarking folding and the server market.

As pointed out in forums second paragraph. maufacturing is spelt wrong

@ Nesquick.....Unless AMD re-invent the wheel, they can't challenge Intel for the moment. AMD Processor are quite weak now since Intel made the Core 2 Duo/Quad.

@ TheFrunj....Almost every overclocked processor is LN2 cooled.

Not necessarily 2SHY. The Phenom II X4 was a good contender... although it came in too late to vs the C2Qs

2SHY, you mean "superclocked"? :D

AMD has to wait till bulldozer, only then will it be able to have a chance at taking on Intel although im not sure if they can do it considering how much larger Intels R&D; budget is.

Well Intel's R&D; budget has always been enormous. That didn't stop AMD taking over the market at the turn of the millenium.

Eh,
Its like Holden and ford in the supercars.
Watch long enough and they'll change. Keep watching and they'll change again. Few years back you would have never seen a Ford in the top3 in any race. Just like no one used amd till 2000ish. It will change. mark my words!

I hate intel's direction with i9 - its just more of the same - "hey lets just put more cores in!!!". Just like Pentium 4 "hey lets just wind out the clockspeed!!!". Look where that got us.

its not Intel's bloated R+D i'm worried about - its their hatchetmen that work in the marketing department (Read: Anti-Comptetion Department) - right now AMD is doing its job in the marketplace; "Keeping the bastards honest"

Intel has a right to sell the i7 / i9 at whatever price it damn well chooses, but if they could get away with charging thousands of dollars for i5 as well - They would, but mever forget how much AMD charged for the FX series when Athlon64 was king.

Bulldozer will hopefully shake things up a little - just like K8, K7 and K6 before it. I just want to see the 2 companies on equal terms.

AMD is just slightly behind. The prices were well matched before the i5 came out. Now you don't see many people with a mid ranged budget going for the Phenom II X4 except the lower ones. No one will buy a 955 unless they have a compatible motherboard... just upgrading.
