BATTLE OF CARTHAGE, INC.
Welcome! Battle of Carthage, Inc. is a Missouri non-profit corporation which conducts reenactments of the Battle of Carthage, Missouri, the first major land battle of the American Civil War. We commemorate the bravery of the men and women who served in the War Between the States. The past is the guidepost to the present.
Our May 3-4, 2003 reenactment is now history itself. We hope soon to bring you after action reports and photos of the reenactment. Our first photo, on this page, depicts the Frontier Brigade (US) practicing the Napoleonic infantry square tactic. On May 3, 2003, for the first time, Col Franz Sigel's use of this tactic in 1861 was replicated by reenactors, including the successful infantry bayonet charge against the Missouri State Guard cavalry. Our reenactment was held on the actual battleground at Civil War Arena on Civil War Road just north of Carthage. For information, click 2003 Information, or click the 2003 Reenactment link above.
We hope you enjoy these pages. Above you will see links to the Official Records (the actual reports of the officers from the 1861 battle), a Battle Map to help you understand the battle, and a series of pages with information about the reenactment held in May, 2000, including after action reports by our reenactor officers, and stirring photos of the reenactment.
