Updated May 28, 2005, Commencement: the last day of Wells College for Women

MINERVA WEEPS: On October 2, 2004, Trustees ordered that Wells College become fully coeducational in August 2005. Grave Concern: What happened to the college's academic program while the Master Plan attempted to re-design the campus and the Village Plan uses millions of donated dollars outside of the classroom? Please Read faculty, student, and alumnae concerns about budget cuts, course reductions, faculty attrition, tenure crisis, student retention, and the closed decision making processes at Wells College.

Trustees Resign: the April 30, 2004 resignation letter of a young Alumna Trustee of Wells College; she's not the only one to quit in disgust.

Alumnae Association Fiasco. Alternate candidates nominated by petition for the Board in 2004 were not fairly represented in college publications, and association resources were used to support candidates backed by the administration. An "unfortunate incident" compromised the confidentiality and credibility of the election. Surprise: all alternate petitioned candidates lost. In the 2003 election, an alternate candidate lost by 1.5% of the vote after a ten-hour unobserved ballot count. In 2005, the Board wants to revise the bylaws, but hasn't informed the membership! Info on the current problems here.

THE MASTER PLAN: since the adoption of the Wells College Master Plan for Campus Development in 2000, have the President and the Board...

~~~ Intro & Info includes the full text of the Master Plan adopted by the Board of Trustees and a defense of the award-winning buildings slated for destruction presented to the Board by a Wells Professor, as wells as maps, photos, a full description, updated info, faculty concerns, world-wide support of Wells architecture, and FAQs.
~~~ Alumnae Petition which protests the Master Plan to move or destroy buildings on campus has nearly 1,100 signatures, and continues to grow. All alumnae are invited to sign.

~~~The Relationship of the Village Plan and the Campus Master Plan: who is Pleasant Thiele Rowland Frautschi '62, and what are she and the college doing to Aurora?
~~~The very latest on Aurora as it turns against the Pleasant Plan to takeover the village. (Amazing what a few bumperstickers can do...)
