I cut the thread on the center motif after the first two rings with enough thread left to finish the motif, and finger tatted the rest, weaving the thread through the rings on the heart as needed. I would tat the rings in the front, and then pass the thread to the back for the chains. It was a bit fiddly, but I like the result!
